Kochi Marathon: Run, Kochiites, Run

KOCHI: Actor Suresh Gopi will flag off the Kochi Marathon on Sunday. He will run a short distance to spread the message of the World Heart Day. Lions Heart Miles-The Kochi Marathon, organised by the district administration, will start from Durbar Hall Ground at 6 am. The participants have to report at the registration pavilion at
5.45 am.More than 600 Navy people have already registered for the event. A number of organisations, including business colleges, corporates and schools, have also registered to participate in the marathon. The winner of Half Marathon, the main attraction of the event, will be awarded ` 1 lakh. The first and second runners-up in each category will get ` 75,000 and ` 50,000, respectively. There will be separate categories for children and senior citizens. All the participants will be covered by ` 1 lakh-worth insurance by the New India Assurance.The event is being managed by Y-Brand ads and events. The main associates are the Lions Club International District 324E4, Heart Care Foundation, the Cardiological Society of India, the National Rural Health Mission, the Southern Naval Command and the Kochi City Police. Seminars to create awareness on heart care and a road show have been planned. All participants will be given certificates and those participating as a team will be awarded trophies, too.
