T20 World Cup 2012 Logo Mascot
"Modern Spin" - the event logo

The event logo - "Modern Spin" - was also unveiled by Mr Lorgat.

Designed by Australian creative firm Witekite, the logo incorporates and amalgamates the rounded look of the Sinhalese Script. The letter "T" forms a player which leads into the "2" while the "0" incorporates a cricket ball.

The colours of the logo, with strong reds and oranges, are seen in both nature and Sri Lankan culture and arts, with their presence in the logo giving them a cricket "spin". It has a natural sense of movement due to its fluid lines and forward angles.

Mr Lorgat said: "I am delighted to reveal this colourful logo that reflects the culture of Sri Lanka. The event now has a formal identity and we will use it to promote this exciting and entertaining event."

The logo will be used on an ongoing basis over the next 12 months and will feature on publicity and promotional material during the build-up to and throughout what will be the fourth ICC World Twenty20.

Mumbai: http://sports.ndtv.com/images/stories/yuvrajbat300.jpgYuvraj Singh is back to where he truly belongs - cricket. After his 10-month long battle against cancer, the champion is back for two T20 matches against New Zealand and the ICC World T20 Championship, which starts next month in Sri Lanka.

The two T20 matches against New Zealand will give him some match practice ahead of the ICC event starting September 18.

A day after the BCCI doctors declared him fit to play the national selectors picked him in the 16-member squad for the T20 series against New Zealand and the World T20.

Yuvraj has not played competitive cricket since taking part in two of three home Tests against the West Indies in November last year as was undergoing treatment for a rare germ cell cancer, which was initially diagnosed as a non-malignant tumour between his lungs.

He went to Boston for treatment and underwent three sessions of chemotherapy. After successfully eradicating the life-threatening disease, Yuvraj returned to India on April 9.

Working hard on regaining his body strength, which had reduced considerably due to chemotherapy, Yuvraj took the first step toward the cricket last week when he played a first class game. He scored 47 runs and bowled a few overs as well.

Since making his international debut in 2000, Yuvraj has played 37 Tests, 274 ODIs and 23 T20s and scored 1775 runs, 8051 runs and 567 runs in the three formats respectively.
Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has been out of the side for more that a year due to injuries and poor form, also makes a comeback into the Indian side for the T20.
The five wise men have also announced the Indian squad for the two-match Test series against New Zealand that starts from August 23.
Contrary to reports of VVS Laxman getting an axe, the Hyderabadi batsman has retained his spot.

'Feels like I am making my debut'

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/837204_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=837204&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

Yuvraj Singh feels like a "debutant" as he gears for the 'second innings' of his international career after winning his battle against cancer.
"It feels as if I am making my debut. I have always believed that T20 is the best format for my comeback," an elated Yuvraj told the mediapersons after he was included in the national squad for the World T20 Championship and the preceding two-match T20 series against New Zealand.

Ecstatic at his selection, the dynamic left-hander said,"It is an emotional day for me. I was very happy after my selection in the preliminary squad, but now I am over the moon."

Terming the rigours of T20 tourney as ideal for his body at the moment, he said "I am not yet ready for 50-over or Test cricket. The demands of the longer format are much more rigorous on the body."

About the chances of comeback in the longer format, Yuvraj said that he would take a call only after the World T20 gets over.

"I will take a call in October when there is a break."

For the man, who fought the biggest battle of his life only few months back, it's more about the "mental aspect rather than physical" which is of paramount importance at the international level.

"Physical fitness has never really been a concern. It was the psychological impact that worried me."

Talking about the importance of the T20 matches against New Zealand, he felt that those games will serve as an indicator as to how he will be shaping up for the big ticket tournament.

Balaji credits KKR stint for return

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/837285_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=837285&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

Lakshmipathy Balaji feels that it is his IPL stint with Kolkata Knight Riders that has helped him make a comeback to the Indian team.
"I attribute my comeback to the national team to my stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. I have been in good form for the past two seasons for the Knights and I am grateful that the selectors have taken notice of my performances," Balaji told PTI.

"The fact that IPL is an international tournament, helps you to assess your exact standard among the international cricketers. It felt good that I was able to perform in all kinds of conditions and different pressure situations.

"I have bowled to the best batsmen in the world and I knew that I am good enough to play for my national team," said Balaji, who took 10 wickets in eight games for KKR during their victorious IPL-V campaign.

One of the primary reasons for Balaji's inclusion has been his effectiveness at the death and the variation in his slower deliveries.

"Obviously, as you grow older, you become more sure about your strengths and abilities. I have definitely matured as a bowler in these years. You can say that I am more confident that I can perform at the international level," the soft-spoken seasoned campaigner added.

After an impressive start, serious knee injury looked like threatening his cricket career but "patience and belief in the Almighty" have been two things that has kept him going.

"I knew that if I had to fulfil my dreams, I have to be hundred percent fit in order to do that. I never wanted to rush my comeback after injuries.

"One needs to understand his body and be patient. Also I am a firm believer in the power of the Almighty. I always knew that God was on my side and I would certainly play for India again," he concluded.

Dilshan: We need to plan against Kohli

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/833543_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=833543&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

Tilalakaratne Dilshan said the Sri Lankan cricket team need to devise a game plan for Virat Kohli for the upcoming ICC World T20 to be held in Sri Lanka in the month of September-October.
"We are not meeting them in the first round. If we have to meet India in the Super Eights or the semifinals then we have to plan against him," Dilshan told PTI.

Dilshan, who is leading the Basnahira Cricket Dundee side in the inaugural edition of the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL), rated Kohli as one of the best young players in world cricket at the moment.

"He is batting really well not just the last month but since the 2011 World Cup. He is scoring heavily and enjoying a great form. He is one of the best young players I have ever seen. For me, if he continues to bat like this then it's not easy to get him out.

"We planned for him in the recently played series but it was not easy to get him out. Twenty20 is a different format as compared to 50-over. He is a fantastic player and playing really good cricket at the moment," the Sri Lankan added.

Kohli has scored 3,886 runs in 90 ODIs with an average of 51.81. He plundered 296 runs, including two centuries, against Sri Lanka in the just concluded five-match ODI series.

The Delhi batsman has so far played eight Tests, scoring 491 runs at an average of 32.73, with his best being 116 against Australia at Adelaide earlier this year.

On the issue of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Dilshan's IPL side, failing to pay the first installment of their salaries for season-5 held in April-May, the Sri Lankan said, "We got a little bit of money last week. We spoke to the management and I think they are going to sort this matter out as soon as possible."

"Some payment is still due but I am not worried about that. I know the owners are going to clear the dues and pay us within next month. I know they will pay us our money."

There were reports that none of the RCB players, save Chris Gayle, have received their first installments. Some members of the Royal Challengers 2012 squad, including captain Daniel Vettori, are still awaiting the first installment of their pay.

Dilshan also rubbished suggestions that he is contemplating a change of franchise following the default committed by his owners on payment to the players.

"Not really. There is no such move in my mind."

The first edition of the SLPL kick-started on August 10 and Dilshan said that one could not compare an established brand like IPL with the island nation's domestic league.

"I think we can't compare IPL with the SLPL. IPL is a big thing if you look at any other domestic T20 cricket in other country. I think after the Twenty20 World Cup, this is the biggest league which attracts quality international players.

"The SLPL is good for local players who could not play in IPL for some reasons. It will help them gain international experience. This is a good set-up for Sri Lankan cricket," he said.

He said the SLPL will help the Sri Lankan players get ready for the T20 World Cup in September-October.

"The SLPL will help them prepare for the World Cup. We are holding matches at Pallekele Stadium, Kandy and R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

"These venues will be used for the World Cup. The league will help some of our players to come back to form before the start of the World Cup. This is like get ready and be 100 per cent fit for the event."

Sports broadcaster ESPN Star is aiming at an advertisement revenue of around Rs 240 crore from the forthcoming ICC World Twenty20 Championship, starting in Sri Lanka next month.

The channel has already signed up Reliance Communications (http://sify.com/finance/stockpricequote/Reliance_Communications_Ltd-15200050.html) and Havells India (http://sify.com/finance/stockpricequote/Havells_India_Ltd-HVL.html) as joint presenting sponsors and Hyundai Motor, Tata Motors, PepsiCo, Pernod Ricard, Nokia and Tata Teleservices (http://sify.com/finance/stockpricequote/Tata_Teleservices_Maharashtra_Ltd-HUGT.html) as associate sponsors.

"ESPN is looking at earning around Rs 240 crore advertisement revenue from the tournament," a source said.

The ICC World Twenty20 Championship 2012 will be held in Sri Lanka between September 18 and October 7.

Commenting on the development, ESPN Software India Managing Director Aloke Malik said: "In terms of on air sales, we have sold close to 80% of the total available inventory as on date."

The broadcaster has signed two joint presenting sponsors out of its plan to have three and six associate sponsors against seven planned. Besides another 10 advertisers have booked spots.

"We expect to close a few more within the next two weeks for a complete sellout," Malik said.

In India, Star Cricket and Star Cricket HD will showcase all the 27 matches of the tournament. The sport broadcaster has also planned a simulcast of all India matches, semi finals and the final with Hindi commentary on its ESPN channel.

ESPN Star Sports also announced that it has sold the syndication rights of the tournament to 218 territories across the world.

"A high definition broadcast available in a record 218 territories, including South America for the first time, means this event will have the best reach for any ICC event," ICC General Manager (Commercial) Campbell Jamieson said.

Yuvraj confident of strong World Twenty20 show

http://www.espncricinfo.com/db/PICTURES/CMS/149200/149215.2.jpg
Yuvraj Singh receives the Arjuna award

Yuvraj Singh (http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/player/36084.html) has received the Arjuna Award, an Indian government honour to recognise outstanding achievement in sport, from Indian president Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi. Yuvraj is currently preparing to make a comeback to international cricket after recovering from a rare germ-cell cancer.

"It's a special award for me," Yuvraj said. "I had been nominated few times but finally I got it this time. It's a proud moment for me and my family. The award will give me a lot of confidence to make a comeback and perform well."

Yuvraj hasn't played any top-flight cricket since last November but has been picked (http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/story/576714.html) for the Twenty20s against New Zealand next month and the World Twenty20 as well. He brushed aside doubts over whether he is fit enough for the rigours of top-flight cricket.

"Experts are not watching me. They don't know about my fitness. It's me who knows what's going on. It's me who is feeling it from inside," Yuvraj said. "I know myself better and I am confident enough to do well in the World Cup in Sri Lanka."

Following chemotherapy in February and March, Yuvraj began training (http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/story/570009.html) in June. "I am practising hard at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore," he said. "The experts over there are watching my fitness level. I know what I am doing and I just want to concentrate on my return and playing cricket.

"If you look at the last three months, I am really training hard and peaking well. I am looking forward to play my first game after a year."

Yuvraj also insisted that he had enough practice to be ready for the World Twenty20. "I had played three practice games at NCA. I will get some serious match practice in the two matches against New Zealand scheduled September 8 and 11. Then, I would be playing two more practice matches. So, you see, I will be having seven games before the World Cup. I will be having enough match practice."

[B]There’s no pressure on me: Yuvraj

http://www.bcci.tv/bcci/bccitv/modules/includes/content/ROOT/images/article/Yuvi-int-640x357_211x147.jpg (http://www.bcci.tv/bcci/bccitv/index/viewarticle?article=504c55620be35-there-s-no-pressure-on-me-yuvraj.html#)

Visakhapatnam, Sep 9: Yuvraj Singh has been an important part of the Indian line-up in the shorter versions of the game since his international debut in 2000. The 30-year-old has been making waves since his early days and continues to be a key figure even today, inspiring awe and affection from the followers of the game.

The southpaw played a crucial role in India winning the inaugural ICC World T20 in 2007 and then bringing home the coveted ICC World Cup in 2011. A livewire on the field, the dashing southpaw first impressed with his all-round capabilities when he helped India lift the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka, back in 2000. Little wonder why his captain, MS Dhoni, has been ruing the all-rounder’s absence in the past few series.

However, Yuvraj is now ready, just in time to wear the blue armour and take guard as India prepare for the 2012 ICC World T20. Eagar to have his day on the field before the all-important ICC tournament, he is looking forward to the T20I against New Zealand and the couple of practice games thereafter. Although the first match against the Black Caps was washed out by rain, Yuvraj took a round of the ground acknowledging the thousands of fans, who had waited through heavy showers for the game to start and watch the cricketer make a comeback.

Excited to do what he does best, Yuvraj expressed his keenness to perform for India in a brief chat with bcci.tv.

Excerpts:

Is there pressure going into the ICC World T20 after winning the 2011 World Cup and before that the 2000 U-19 World Cup and the 2007 ICC World T20?

I don’t think there is any kind of pressure on me because I am really happy that I am getting another chance to play. I am just going to go and express myself. I have been practicing really well and it was unfortunate that it rained today [in the first T20I against NZ] but maybe in another game [I will get the opportunity to play] and then going to the World Cup [ICC World T20 in Sri Lanka]. I am really looking forward to it.

Is there any pressure on the team going into the ICC World T20?

Definitely! As a team we perform well under pressure. Sri Lanka is a place that we are used to playing in and we are used to the conditions there. I am sure that the guys will regroup [and be ready to play] and [also] we have got a couple of practice games [ahead of the tournament]. So it will be a good momentum for us going in to the World Cup.

How do you cope with the expectations?

As I said I don’t have any pressure. The team will be under pressure to play well to win. I think we have done well in those kinds of situations before. But for me I don’t feel any pressure at the moment. When I start performing, the pressure will be back on me; but at the moment I am just happy that I am going to step on the field.

MS Dhoni has talked about missing you and missing an all-rounder in the last few series. What is your take on that?

I think MS has been missing my bowling more than my batting [laughs]. I fit in the role of a fifth bowler for the team. So, I think that is my responsibility because I did well with the ball in the World Cup. So hopefully, I can deliver the same way in the T20 World Cup as well.

What has been missing form the team?

As an all-rounder it is good that me and Irfan [Pathan], both are back; Bhajji [Harbhajan Singh] is back. [So, there are] guys who can bat and bowl. So, there will be good depth for the team. So, the balance of the team is really good at the moment.

Does anything change in T20 as compared to the one-day format?

T20 is a very unpredictable format. You don’t know which way the game might shift, at anytime. We can’t really predict what is going to happen in the game, but the guys have been playing well and hopefully we have a couple of more days to prepare. We have one more game against New Zealand and hopefully it doesn’t rain [in Chennai]. And then we step into the World Cup and have two practice games [before the World Cup].

What kind of wickets do you expect in Sri Lanka?

The wickets might spin and the spinners might come in handy. Let’s go there and see what the conditions are like.

Srikkanth backs India to win T20 WC

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/565757_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=565757&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

Outgoing chief cricket selector Krish Srikkanth on Monday predicted an Indian triumph in the ICC World T20, starting in Sri Lanka on September 18.
"In eight days' time the T20 World Cup is starting. The Indian team is one of the strongest on paper. To pick the eleven itself is going to be difficult for the team management. It will be difficult to decide whom to drop.
"This team has the potential to win the T20 World Cup. I am pretty confident. The positive energy and prayers of the one billion Indian people will come strongly again like in the 2011 World Cup to give energy to the Indian cricketers to help them win. I would be chairman when the tournament starts but would be ex-chairman when India win," he said.
Srikkanth and three co-selectors - Surendra Bhave, Raja Venkat and Narendra Hirwani - will step down from their posts after completing their term at the Cricket Board's AGM on September 27.
Only Mohinder Amarnath, the fifth member of the selection panel, has a chance to continue if he is re-appointed for another year by the Board's general body.
Srikkanth, here to perform his final job as chief selector by choosing the Irani Cup team and India 'A' and 'B' squads for the NKP Salve Challenger Series, said the 2011 World Cup triumph by Mahendra Singh Dhoni's team was easily the high point of the outgoing panel's tenure.
"We all had a dream and a goal when we took over (as members of) the selection committee, can we win the 2011 World Cup? We went getting prepared for the World Cup.

"The Indian team played brilliantly and we could win the World Cup which, I would say, was the high point of this particular selection committee in the sense that we could win the World Cup after 28 years," the former India opener said.

Srikkanth, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad led by Kapil Dev, said personally it was more satisfying for him when the Dhoni-led team lifted cricket's showpiece trophy.
"For me personally it was a little bit more of a satisfaction because I was part of the (1983) World Cup winning team and I am chairman of the selection committee which picked the 2011 team," Srikkanth said.

"I should thank my co-selectors in the first three years - Raja Venkat, Surendra Bhave Hirwani and Yashpal Sharma - for their great cooperation. Now I have the opportunity this year of having me alongside a great cricketer like Jimmy Amarnath whose inputs have been valuable."
The former India captain was also confident that the country would attain the no. 1 ranking in all forms of the game in a short period of time, but cautioned that patience was required for this to happen.

"The other high point was that for 20 long months India was no. 1 in Tests and for a few months no. 1 in one-day cricket. Cricket is a game of ups and downs. We had some tough time in Australia and England and now we are rebuilding. We have had greats like Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly retiring during this committee's tenure.
"It's not going to be easy to replace them but I am sure Indian cricket has got enough talent to start partially and then hope completely (to replace them). It's not easy to fill their shoes and it's a process. Rebuilding a side does not happen overnight. All of us will have to be patient.
"We have started that already with people like Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara who are doing the job very well. Like them there are so many youngsters. You saw R Ashwin coming in and bowling and taking the Man of the Series award. You saw Umesh Yadav coming in as a medium pacer."
"India would be back in no. 1 slot in all forms shortly. I can assure you that much as there is enough talent. The biggest advantage in Indian cricket is BCCI's cricket structure is so excellent... domestic format, number of matches, limited overs cricket, T20 cricket, four-day cricket.

"It gives tremendous opportunity for the youngsters to showcase the talent and go up the ladder. The future committee will continue the process of rebuilding," he said.

Dhoni confident as team land in Colombo

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/854855_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=854855&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

The Indian cricket team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni arrived in Colombo today for the ICC World T20, starting on September 18.
"We are a team which relies strongly on batting. But some of the top batsmen also play the role of part-timers. In T20 cricket, part-timers are very important. Our part-timers have been doing well. So we have a very good team," Dhoni told reporters after arriving here.

"The youngsters are really hungry to do well. We are the world champions in 50-over format and it is important we do well in the Twenty20 World Cup. We have to be at our best in this format and we don't have time to recover as compared to Tests or ODIs," he said.

Dhoni said switching from Test cricket to Twenty20 format would be difficult but his team has the experience of making the adjustment for the World Cup.

India played two Test matches against New Zealand and a Twenty20 International against the same opponents before embarking for the T20 World Cup and Dhoni said it was not easy to switch from the longest to the shortest format.

"It's quite difficult to switch formats, especially from Test to T20. The way you approach a game is different in all the three formats and you have to adjust. But it is not that you cannot do it, only thing is that your basics will have to be right," he said.

"But as professional cricketers we have to do that and players like Virender Sehwag have been playing in three formats and doing well," he said.

Dhoni, who led India to title in the first edition in 2007, said that part-timers, like come-back man Yuvraj Singh, will have to play a big role if India will have to lift the trophy once again.

Dhoni refused to answer whether Yuvraj Singh's inclusion in the team after recovering from a rare germ cell cancer was an emotional decision or on form but said that star batsman was an asset in the side.

"I can't answer that question relating to selection of the team. It's a selection matter. But I am happy that he is in the team as he is a champion player and a match-winner.

"He also brings a balance in the team as in T20 cricket you don't include a fifth bowler," said Dhoni.

"We also don't have a genuine all-rounder so we have to rely on part-time bowlers who are specialist batsmen. Yuvraj is one and we have Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina.

"They will chip in an over each and that makes a lot easier for us," he said.

Asked about the conditions in Sri Lanka, Dhoni said that the pitches in the island country have changed in recent years and his side will have to analyse them.

"I feel the conditions in Sri Lanka have changed a lot in the past years. When we came here in 2005, the wickets were different and when we came here last time, the wickets were different. The spinners did not get much help from the pitches in the five ODIs and one T20 match we played here in our last tour," he said.

"For example, if a ground is hosting many matches, then it will slow down and the spinners will get help. So we have to see the conditions and plan accordingly."

He also warned his players not to get complacent against Afghanistan against whom India open their campaign on September 19.

"We respect all our opponents and we cannot be complacent. In international cricket, no side can take the opposition team lightly," he said.

AFClarke: Australia can defy low ranking

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/855133_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=855133&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

Australia may be ranked ninth in the world at Twenty20 cricket, but Test captain Michael Clarke is confident they can upset the formbook at the forthcoming ICC World T20.
The New South Welshman will be a mere observer when the tournament kicks off later this month, having retired from the shortest form of the game in January.
George Bailey will captain the side as a result, and has yet to achieve the sort of success demanded of a Baggy Green captain.
But Clarke has the belief that Bailey and the rest of the side can prove their doubters wrong in Sri Lanka.
"I think we can win the Twenty20 World Cup for sure," he said.
"We've got the talent and I think we showed that in our last game against Pakistan in the UAE.
"We've showed it in patches over the last couple of years and we made the final the last time around, and I hope we can go one better."
In the absence of the likes of Clarke and Ricky Ponting - seasoned heads intrinsically linked with modern-day Australian cricket - the likes of Bailey, Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Wade have been given their chance.
The side looks dramatically different as a result, and Clarke added: "This is a different Australian team and we need to turn things around. What better time to do it than at the World Cup."

Lanka, Ireland win warm-up games

Sri Lanka defeated West Indies by nine wickets in today's ICC World Twenty20 warm-up match at Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo.
Mahela Jayawardene (57 not out) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (50no) struck half-centuries as the tournament hosts finished on 135 for one, comfortably chasing down the Windies' 132 for six with more than four overs to spare.
Johnson Charles top-scored for West Indies with 30 and Darren Bravo chipped in 29 as Nuwan Kulasekara returned figures of two for 35 for the hosts.

Ireland thrash Zimbabwe
Across town at the the Moors Sports Club Ground, Ireland enjoyed a comfortable victory over Zimbabwe as they began their World Twenty20 preparations.
Having made huge strides in one-day cricket over recent years, all eyes are on Ireland to see what sort of impression they will make in Sri Lanka.
They gave a nod towards it being a good one with a 54-run victory.
The Irish batted first after being put in and made 181 for five, before restricting Zimbabwe to 127 for eight in response.
Niall O'Brien starred with the bat, making 62 from 49 balls, while Kevin O'Brien (30 not out) and Ed Joyce (29) offered ample support.

Taylor wary of world class spinners

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/840586_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=840586&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

Clubbed alongside former champions Pakistan and Bangladesh, New Zealand will be have to "combat" some top class spinners in the upcoming World T20 in Sri Lanka.
Taylor is in no mood to look "too far ahead" as the Kiwis have been placed in a dicey Group D along with two sub-continental teams in the event, scheduled to be held from September 18 to October 7.

"We've got a tough pool in Pakistan and Bangladesh and we don't want to look too far ahead of those two matches," he said.

"Twenty20 is a game where you now have to play attacking but they do have world-class spinners in their sides and we need to acknowledge that and allow our players to combat it," Taylor was quoted as saying by 'cricinfo'.

But going into the tournament, New Zealand will be high on confidence after pulling off a thrilling one-run win over India in the second Twenty20 game against India on Tuesday.

"I think it (the win) gives you a little bit of confidence but you don't want to get too carried away. It's just one win," Taylor said.

New Zealand play Australia and South Africa in two warm-up games before their tournament opener against Bangladesh on September 21.

"Australia played very well in their last game, I'm sure they'll take a lot of confidence from that. The way (David) Warner and Watto (Shane Watson) batted set a very good platform for the side," Taylor said.

"Any New Zealand-Australia game is obviously competitive and we'll be looking forward to trying a few things and obviously want us to win the game as well," the Kiwi skipper said.

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson hinted that the side would start experimenting once it was confident about its game.

"It's sort of adjusting to the changing humidity, which will take a couple of days so a couple of good trainings and get ready for the warm-up game. Just making sure we give everyone some decent opportunities.

"Obviously, the key is once we get to the Bangladesh game, once we feel confident about our own game, we'll certainly give a number of people different opportunities," Hesson said.

He was of the view that New Zealand would take a lot of confidence from the narrow win in Chennai.

"We were frustrated to have the Twenty20 washed out (in Visakhapatnam) but the character we showed in the second T20 against a good side in Chennai gives the guys a lot of confidence heading into the tournament," said Hesson.

BCCI ask players to wear old jersey

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/839730_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=839730&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

BCCI have asked India's cricketers to stick to the jerseys they wore during their 50-over World Cup triumph last year as a good-luck charm.
The Indian cricketers sported the new jerseys only last month during a glitzy unveiling ceremony but for the actual event starting on Saturday, they have been told to wear the old design only.

"The players have been asked to wear the jersey they wore during the 2011 World Cup," a BCCI official said.
Interestingly, the cricketers were quite happy with the new jersey design when it was unveiled.

"Now that we have a different T20 shirt, there will be a strong association between the format and the jersey," skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni had said.

"I play with my heart and I play for the national flag. I like this jersey because the national colours are on my heart," aggressive opener Virender Sehwag had added.

India eye ascendance against Pak

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/856776_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=856776&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

India would like to keep the winning momentum going when they take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their second warm-up game of the ICC World Twenty20 on Monday.
The MS Dhoni-led Indian team would, however, want their batsman to come good against a superior Pakistani bowling unit to maintain a clean slate ahead of their World Twenty20 opener against Afghanistan on September 19.

Though, India won comfortably against Sri Lanka in their opening warm-up game, they certainly need to put up a better show with the bat against Pakistan, who boast of quality bowlers like Saeed Ajmal and Umar Gul in their ranks.

Injury to opener Gautam Gambhir, who hurt his wrist against Sri Lanka, would be a concern for the Indians but Virender Sehwag along with other top-order batsmen need to redeem themselves against Pakistan following their dismal show with the bat in the first match.

India, in particular, would like Sehwag to fire against Pakistan and get some runs under his belt ahead of the tough battle ahead.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has been a consistent performer, but the young Delhi lad would look to settle down and get battle ready with a solid knock against Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium.

Yuvraj Singh, who made a comeback to world cricket after recovering from cancer with a cameo of 34 runs against New Zealand in the second T20 game in Chennai, also needs to get some more runs under his belt.

And the match against Pakistan will provide the gutsy left-hander with an opportunity to prove that he is ready and looking forward to take on the world with the same zeal as he had left it a year ago following the critical illness.

While Suresh Raina would also look to spend some more time on the crease, Dhoni showed why he is still rated as one of the great finishers of the game against Sri Lanka the other day.

But against Pakistan on Monday, the Indian skipper needs to be much more focused both with the bat and with his leadership skills.

Of late, Rohit Sharma has been erratic with bat which might prompt Dhoni to give Manoj Tiwary a chance ahead of their campaign opener.

The Indian bowlers led by Irfan Pathan, however, looked in good stead in the previous match and they just need to continue their positive run against Pakistan.

Pathan continued his fine run and scalped five wickets to guide India to a comfortable 26-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first practice match on Saturday.

The only concern for Dhoni would be lack of wickets in pace spearhead Zaheer Khan's kitty.

But comeback man Harbhajan Singh looked composed against the hosts and bowled a tight line, which definitely is encouraging for the team.

Pakistan, on the other hand have been a bit inconsistent in the run-up to the sporting extravaganza. They won two successive T20 matches against Australia, but their 94-run loss to the Kangaroos in the final T20 tie showed that their batsmen are vulnerable to quality bowling.

Pakistan's batting line-up exhibits immaturity at this level, but with the likes of Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi and skipper Mohammed Hafiz in the ranks they really have the necessary fire power to upset any side.

Young Nasir Jamshed has shown tremendous promise with the bat and the game against India would certainly test his temperament.

On the bowling front, Pakistan has a much settled line-up with off-spinner Saeed Ajmal and speedster Umar Gul leading their respective departments.

The experience of Razzaq and Afridi with the ball gives Hafiz plenty of options to dismantle any batting side.

With both the teams having tasted success at the big stage -- India winning the inaugural World T20 in 2007 and Pakistan lifting the trophy two years later -- an exciting battle awaits cricket loving fans of both the countries.

Teams

India: M S Dhoni (c/wk), Gautam Gambhir, Ravichandran Ashwin, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Piyush Chawla, Ashok Dinda, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Virat Kohli, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Yuvraj Singh.

Pakistan: Mohammad Hafeez (c), Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Imran Nazir, Kamran Akmal (wk), Mohammad Sami, Nasir Jamshed, Raza Hasan, Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Akmal, Umar Gul, Yasir Arafat.
