Ko is double Ayan!

The much-awaited film from KV Anand, Ko, starring Jiiva, Karthika, daughter of yesteryear leading lady Radha, Ajmal and Piaa Bajpai is all set to explode on April 14th. The director is very happy about his third film and he says that it can be considered “Double Ayan”! The Suriya starrer propelled KV Anand to the big league as it was a box office bonanza and Ko is supposed to be twice as good!
Harris Jayaraj’s music, it is hoped, will also repeat the success of Ayan which had some timeless numbers. Producer, RB Chowdhary of Super Good films will be releasing this movie simultaneously in Telugu as Rangam. This is a first for the production house and reflects the confidence the makers have in their film. We are sure Ko will be a thumping success

Ko release date confirmed!

Yes, we just heard it from the horse's mouth! Director KV Anand has announced that the release date of his much awaited Ko is set for the 15th of April. This is one movie that has been garnering the attention of the media and the audience ever since its launch. STR was to play the lead but he was later replaced by Jiiva and yesteryear heroine Radha's daughter Karthika Nair makes her Tamil debut with this film. Ajmal and Piaa Bajpai play important roles in this film which will apparently be two times better than Ayan.
The movie is rumored to be about a photo journalist (Jiiva) who helps his friend (Ajmal) to enter politics by offering him the several political contacts he knows. Ajmal wins an election and what happens after that forms the rest of the story. Songs have been tuned by Harris Jayaraj and is topping the charts. Everyone is eagerly awaiting for the movie and we hope Ko will be a bigger hit than Ayan was!

Ko certified for release

Ko is getting ready to hit the theatres this month. The film recently went in for censor certification and it has been awarded with a U certificate. Ko, directed by KV Anand, is said to be a political thriller. The film has Jiiva, Ajmal, Karthika and Piaa Bajpai playing the lead roles.
Shot in some exotic foreign locations, Ko will certainly be a feast for the viewers eyes, say sources in Kollywood. KV Anand, being a cinematographer himself before deciding to wield the megaphone, has a penchant for choosing the best locations for his films

KO Preview

Ko - A Royal Welcome

‘Ko’ is an upcoming film directed by KV Anand starring Jeeva, Ajmal , Karthika and Piya Bajpai in lead roles. This the third film directed by KV Anand after ‘Kana Kandein’ and ‘Ayan’.
This film is said to be a political action thriller about the adventures of a photo journalist, played by Jeeva, who finds himself in trouble when investigating a mystery case as a gang of musclemen are after him.
Yester years dream girl Radha’s daughter, Karthika is debuting in Tamil cinema as the heroine opposite Jeeva. Prakash Raj, Ajmal and Piaa are other important actors. Ajmal’s character is also said to have some grey shades and the actor is excited about the challenging role.
Buzz is also there saying the film is to some extent inspired from the Hollywood flick ‘State of Play’ in which Russell Crowe as a journalist risks his life to save his politician friend from a serious trouble ignorant of his true colours.
The movie is said to have a lot of real life incidents experienced by KV Anand when he worked as a photo journalist before turning a film cameraman. The film which started in early 2010 had a few hiccups in the casting area and that delayed the first schedule shooting.
‘Ko’ was first conceived with Karthi in mind. But when it was officially launched Silambarasan was in his place and Tamannah was the heroine. Later Tamannah was dropped and Karthika was signed. Irked by the change of cast Silambarasan too walked out of the project.
Director KV Anand decided to let Simbu go and replaced him with Jeeva and retained Karthika as heroine. Similarly even Ajmal got into the affairs only after Narain and Prasanna could not do it. Once the casting was finalized, the movie gathered the momentum and is ready for release now.
Ko was shot in Pondichery, Thekkadi, Vagaman, Kumili, Madurai, Manakkadu, Rameswaram, Thiruchendur, Parundumpara and a few other southern towns. Substantial part was also shot in striking locales in China and Tanzania. Richard Nathan is the cameraman.
As usual in a KV Anand film, in this too Harris Jayaraj is playing a major role in elevating the film. Apparently KV Anand took Harris Jayaraj to all the locations of the shoot to give him a feel of the places so that he keeps the surroundings in mind when composing the music. The composing of the songs took place in Macau. The duo already had a remarkable success in ‘Ayan’.
The music of ‘Ko’ will be officially launched on January 19. The album has six songs and all are youthful varieties. Apparently the ‘Aga Naga’ song features special appearances by popular actors including Suriya, Karthi, Anjali, Bharath, Jayam Ravi, Atharva, Jai, Krish, Nakul, Narain, Sakthi, Shiva, along with Harris Jayaraj and KV Anand on screen. It is surely going to be one of the highlights of the film.
‘Ko’ is produced by Kumar Jayaram for RS Infotainment and is marketed by Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies

Ko gets bigger than Ayan

Ko has just got bigger and has crossed the records created by Ayan. The theatres that will be screening this film are houseful already for the first four days.:bike: Director KV Anand is on cloud nine as the reception that Ko is getting is bigger than what Ayan had got when it was released.
KV Anand had earlier said that Ko will be a feast for the eye as he had shot the film in some exotic locations that the audiences would love to see. This has created a lot of expectation for the film.
Ko stars Jiiva, Karthika, Ajmal and Pia Bajpai in important roles. Harris Jayraj has scored the music for this film which is another major plus point.

Ko’s Vettripadi

Ko is slated to be released this Friday, April 22, 2011. With the film ready for release, its director K V Anand and music director Harris Jayraj have decided to add one more song. Sources in Kollywood say that Anand and Harris are doing it for sentimental reasons because they had added a song when Ayan was due to be released and the film went on to become a huge hit.
The song in Ko, which begins with the lyrics Vetripadi, will be added to the film prior to its release. Meanwhile, the Ko team recently saw the film and was happy over the outcome. Ko stars Jiiva, Karthika, Ajmal and Pia Bajpai. Speaking about this team, the director has said that it was a pleasant experience to work with such a young and energetic team

Ko movie review

Kollywood has seen many a movie on journalists and their undercover operations to bring the corrupt and evil elements to book. But rarely they ended up becoming an engrossing fare, bringing the audience to the edge of their seats.

But cinematographer - director K V Anand, who started his career as a photojournalist, has taken it in his stride, drawing perhaps instances from his real life to render a movie that is engrossing, entertaining and racy.

Unlike other movies of this genre, where mediamen are shown almost demi-gods, here Anand brings out the human element in the hearts of the scribes.

The manner in which he narrates the complicated working nature of the journalists in a simple manner deserves a special mention. His early days in his previous career has come really handy.

Anand brings out the guts, determination and the passion towards the profession through Jiiva, who plays Ashwin, a photojournalist with a newspaper called Dinanjali. The complex atmosphere in which these journalists work, the challenges that they face are brought out well indeed.

The detailing deserves a special mention. It is where the whole movie stands out. Better understanding of the situations ensures that we are into the movie straight away. The deadlines, pressure and the desire to break out new stories that is driving the scribes, are well captured. Anand thanks to writers Subha has etched out a script that is fast and furious.

Jiiva as the stylish photojournalist is the axle of the wheel. Equally complimenting him are Karthika and Piya playing journos. Then you have educated Ajmal, an aspiring politician, keen to bring a change in the society. Then there is one Chief Minister Prakashraj, who sets the ball rolling.

In a nutshell, the movie speaks about the valour of journalists. Anand has proved that pen is always mightier than sword. The movie begins at Dinanjali, a newspaper office where Ashwin (Jiva), is a photographer and Renu (Karthika) and Saro(Piyaa) are journalists. Up on their feet they have a nose for news. Ashwin's lens is creative and catch all well.

Then there is one an engineer Vasanth (Ajmal), an aspiriog politician who wants to bring a change by contesting elections. As any such story would have there is a Chief Minister Yogi (Prakashraj). A blast occurs and Saro is killed. It leads to chain reactions. The onus is now on Renu and Ashwin to unravel all and set things right. How they does it what the movie is all about!.

The performances by the central cast are superlative, and equally praiseworthy is a massive performance by the supporting cast.

Jiiva stands out as Ashwin. He is cool, suave, stylish and unblemished in the role. His body language and dialogue delivery are catchy and needs compliments. Also an angry young man wakes up in him and he brings out that transformation exceedingly well.

Ajmal is equally good. A man with a mission, he come up triumphs. Karthika is a good find by Anand. Daughter of yesteryear actress Radha, she plays a dedicated investigative journo with ease and elan. So is Piyaa. She is simple and elegant. Watch out for a stand out performance by Prakash Raj. After a long gap, he is back with a meaty role which he does well. His encounters with Jiiva deserves applause.

Harris Jayaraj is another hero. His smooth and catchy tunes coupled with racy background score peps up the proceedings.

The movie is audacious and pacy as the promos made us believe. The film manages to do one very crucial thing: it evokes your sentiments. You feel empathy, rage, helplessness, and triumph at every step of the way with the

journalists.

Hat’s off to KV Anand. He has done the impossible; by making a film which is realistic at the same time has all the packaging’s of a commercial entertainer. Anand is the new age Shankar and his Ko will surely satisfy all sections of the audiences.
First and foremost, Anand being a former press photographer has portrayed the true life of a news cameraman. Ko is a triumph of honest writing. Full marks to writer Suba and Anand for their dialogues which echoes the happenings in Tamil Nadu politics, laced with humour and soft romance.
The highlight is the superb smashingly original climax twist, giving the film its gravitas. Commercial ingredients are mixed well to make it a racy entertainer, with peppy music and eye catching song picturisation. Anand also extracts spellbinding performance from his lead artists- Jiiva, Ajmal, Piaa and Karthika, which makes the film work big time.
Ashwin (Jiiva) is a hardworking committed photographer working for a Tamil daily Dina Anjali. His passion for coming out with pictures that speak and tell the truth, makes him a star in his office. Two lady journalists working in the same paper Renuka (Karthika), the investigative reporter and Saro (Piaa), who covers the entertainment section, develop a soft corner for him.
Meanwhile Tamil Nadu assembly elections are underway and the fight is basically between two slime balls- Chief Minister Yogeswaran (Prakash Raj) and opposition leader Kota (Kota Sreenivasa Rao). They will do anything to come to power including bribing the electorate and goondagiri . Suddenly, due to Renuka’s writing and Ashwin’s scoop photos, a third force led by youth Vasanthan (Ajmal) who believes in clean politics emerges.
Just before elections while addressing a huge youth rally a bomb goes off at the election campaign meeting of Vasanthan, killing Saro. Ashwin and others are convinced that it is the handiwork of the traditional politicians and goes all out to support Vasanthan, who wins the elections and becomes the youngest Chief Minister. But things take sudden twist which leads to a stunning climax.
Jiiva lives his role as Ashwin the photographer. Shorn of any artificiality, his nervous energy and anguish is tangible. You need not do ridiculous, overblown action scenes, mouth punch-line dialogues; do crude comedy or loud romance to be heroic. The heroism is there in the character he portrays, which has been well etched. It is a heroic role which has the audiences rooting for him and Jiiva with this performance is going to be a force to reckon with in Tamil cinema.
Piaa is outstanding in a supporting role and her natural flair in comedy brings the house down. New girl Karthika makes a confident first impression as Renuka, with Chinmayi's dubbing being a major plus. Ajmal had done a difficult role so convincingly. Sona as ‘sex-bomb’ and Kollywood glam girl Sunita Kothari who campaigns for a political party is a scream. Prakash Raj and Kota Sreenivasa Rao as “dirty politicians” play to the gallery. The unknown supporting actors mainly the editorial department at the newspaper office are fantastic.
The tangy music of Harris Jayaraj especially his background score is in sync with the theme of the film. All songs are superbly picturised by cameraman Richard M Nathan. Ennamo Aedho.. and Venpanniye are the pick of the songs. If you want to nit- pick, Editor Antony has tried to speed up things but it slacks in the second half. The film is a little too long at 2 hours 47 minutes, and too many cinematic liberties are taken in the final half an hour. For an audience numbed by predictable Kollywood potboilers week after week, here is an original offering from KV Anand, a fearless filmmaker who doesn't insult your intelligence. He is able to cater to the needs of both the elite as well as mass audiences, which should be applauded. Verdict- Very Good

Ko is a spicy ride

Red Giant Movies' and RS Infotainment's latest, Ko (King), directed by K V Anand, who gave the 2009 blockbuster, Ayan, manages to satisfy most of the criteria of a summer entertainer; there's a little bit of action, humour, political gymnastics, treason, betrayal, angst and the mandatory romance to satisfy audiences. And for what it's worth, it takes you along on a spicy ride.

Like Ayan, this movie too, features the writer duo Suba, who've come up with the screenplay in conjunction with the director, as well the dialogues. And to give credit where it's due, much of it sparkles with wit, humour and targets today's issues straight on the head.

Interestingly, the protagonist Ashwin (Jiiva) happens to be a photo journalist with the Dina Anjal Tamil daily, a different take from the usual parade of professions (director K V Anand is supposed to have drawn inspiration from his own experiences as a photo journalist, for the film).

He is literally trampled on by the heroine, Renuka Narayanan (Karthika), who ducks from his sight when he enters the office. She's the chief reporter for Dina Anjal, and has been newly transferred from Madurai [ Images (http://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=madurai) ]. There's an instant spark between Ashwin and Renuka, notwithstanding the bubbly Saro (Piaa Bajpai), who happens to be another reporter, and has a soft spot for Ashwin. You're also introduced quickly to Dina Anjal, and into how a popular daily works.

As matters cruise along in this lighthearted fashion, peppered with tasteful duets, things begin to hot up on the other end of the spectrum. There's Alavandhan (Kota Sreenivasa Rao), leader of the opposition party, who washes his hands discretely with Dettol once he touched a baby, and tries to marry a 13-year old because his horoscope predicts a great future if he does.

And then, Ashwin runs into Vasanthan Perumal (Ajmal), a smart, self-possessed, compassionate young man with a band of followers, who are determined to do their bit for society. Vasanthan is the embodiment of all that is necessary to turns politics around but he lacks public support and finances. Ashwin, impressed with his ethics, begins to do everything he can to throw the spotlight on his newfound friend, and give him some semblance of support.

Of course, just when it seems like everything might fall into place, disaster strikes.

The role is a cake-walk for Jiiva: he's had a ball with the camera, clicking shots in almost impossible situations and making sure his trademark effervescence is present at all times. Peter Hein's stunts make sure he fights well but the drawback is that this is not really a performance-oriented role.

The same goes for the striking Karthika, yesteryear actress Radha's daughter. With her dark eyes and well-made up face, she displays a confidence in front of the camera that makes you forget she's debuting in Tamil.

Piaa does the part of the bubbly enthusiast well, while seasoned actors like Kota Sreenivasa Rao and Prakash Raj [ Images (http://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=prakash+raj) ], with smaller roles, add depth. You wish they had been given more screen space. Several secondary characters, like Sona, wring a bit of laughter.

Its Ajmal, however, who happens to be the surprise package. He has got a lot of scope to perform, and makes use of the opportunity well. In fact, his role clocks in almost as many minutes as Jiiva's himself. The production crew has almost outdone itself: Richard M Nathan's camera, after a somber outing in Angadi Theru, enters light, glitz and glamour.

Editor Anthony is the star, though: the shots flip by at amazing speed or linger as necessary, and he's shown an instinctive understanding of them which helps the story.

Harris Jeyaraj's numbers are already chartbusters but Ennamo Edho is obviously the pick of the lot. You do, however, feel that the placement of some of the numbers hamper proceedings. The background score might not be scintillating, but manages to be unobtrusive.

K V Anand's screenplay moves swiftly during the first half, courtesy the dialogues, and lags slightly in the second. Still, with its basic plot of politics, it has enough twists and turns to keep you occupied. Best of all are the light touches of sarcasm and humour that make it work. Go for it.

Simbu walks out of KV Anand’s Ko!

Silambarasan cut a huge cake and celebrated his 26th birthday (February 3) among his fans at the Devar Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai.

Simbu was tensed as he had made a very crucial decision early in the morning to walk out of KV Anand’s Ko!! Simbu was to fly to China on the night of February 6 along with the rest of the Ko crew to start with a song picurisation for the film.

It seems Simbu and Anand had difference of opinion over the script and heroine of the film Karthika. The actor wanted to replace her as heroine, which Anand refused. The producer AGS Kalpathi Agoharam tried to sort it out but both parties were stubborn.

Finally they shook hands and decided to part amicably without any rancour. Both have decided to keep mum on the issue and refused to speak about it. But Simbu told Sify.com (http://www.orkut.co.in/Interstitial?u=http://sify.com/&t=ACic6VfbA8PduwrK3qnTAzZhwG66Zt2QeRVF6BHPOhTLLepk cou6qJpV89btnA5JBcIcq4CgFTjFWubyjMexdr4Egu0z4qwcLw AAAAAAAAAA): “ Yes I will not be a part of this film as there were far too many difference of opinion between us right from the beginning. We even did a photo shoot but today I am a relieved man”.

Meanwhile Anand backed by his producer has decided to go ahead with Ko with a new hero and Karthika as heroine. The grapevine has it that Anand has given a narration to Jeeva, who is very happy with the subject and has no issues about Karthika being the heroine. If all goes well, Anand will go ahead with the China shoot as per the schedule.

Meanwhile Simbu has not confirmed if he will be starting his ambitious film Valiban or the Bhoopathy Pandian film first. Adds Simbu: “ I will be doing films for directors like Lingusamy and Venkat Prabhu soon. Right now, I am eagerly waiting for Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya release.Vada Pochu

KO under attack! :sadwalk:

Jiiva is very upset as his film KO is a victim of piracy. The movie has been released on the internet over the weekend and the full version can be watched online. The actor is devastated and has said that such crimes undermine all the hard work that goes into a film and deprive many of their livelihoods.
Not one to remain passive, Jiiva has asked his fans and all film lovers to join him in the fight against piracy. If anyone comes across such illegal websites on the internet they have been requested to send the links to pirakill@hotmail.com, so that the miscreants can be apprehended and suitably punished. We at Behindwoods.com endorse the stand taken by Jiiva and hope that our readers will join the fight to kill piracy.

Jiiva, a hot favorite of photojournalists

With the release of Ko this Friday, Jiiva has become a hot favorite among the photojournalists. In this film, he plays a photojournalist and his role is being widely appreciated by one and all. The Telugu version of Ko has been titled Rangam and it is all set to scorch the screens from April 29th onwards.

Ko has been declared a hit already and the film is running to packed houses. :banana:Once again Harris Jayraj, KV Anand and Suba have proved that they are a hit combination. This film has Jiiva, Karthika, Ajmal and Pia Bajpai in main roles.

Anand’s Ko is a flamboyantly made entertainer with a juicy premise, a good star cast, foot tapping music and interesting foreign locations. While Jiiva and Karthika make an interesting pair, Piaa plays the one-sided love.

Trade Talk:
Having been in the much-anticipated category for a long time now, Ko was blessed with very good opening. What with positive reviews and initial feedback, rush at the turnstiles is expected to continue for a few more weeks.

Public Talk:
Multitalented Jiiva’s performance, Karthika’s expressive eyes, Piaa’s emotive role – all make topics for discussions.

Piaa cries seeing "her death"

Piaa sobbed loudly when she saw the "death of Saro, the character she plays in Ko"!

Her friends who accompanied her for the noon show at Sathyam cinemas on the opening day of Ko were seen trying hard to console her!

Piaa with her 70MM smile later told sify.com: "Yes I could not stop crying seeing my own death in the film. It made me emotional, as the character of Saro has so well been etched out by Anand sir".

Actually, Piaa had seen Ko the previous night at a sneak preview for the unit members of the film. At that time too she had cried, and it was heroine Karthika who was by her side who consoled.

Later Ajmal who was there at the screening came and "apologised to Piaa, for hitting her so hard on screen, just before she dies!"

Meanwhile Piaa has been getting a lot of accolades for her performance in Ko, which actually has given her a new lease of life.

Concludes Piaa with a smile : "Now I can say in Tamil it Ananda Kanneer or tears of joy, as the film has been declared a super hit. What more can I ask for?"

Silambarasan fans have started a campaign in social media networks thanking him for not acting in Ko!

STR fans felt that the film had political overtones in its script and had little scope for the lead character.
The fans used the online medium Facebook and Orkut to express their happiness to STR and flooded his fan page which has more than a lakh fans.
When contacted Simbu said: "Doing a movie and not doing it is an actor's personal choice . I welcome fans comments and at the same time I don't want anyone to talk bad about other heroes or films in my page. I'm from the same industry and respect cinema and want all movies to do well for the good of our industry."
Meanwhile, the star is all excited about his Vaanam releasing next Friday (April 29).

The film is being distributed in Chennai city by his home concern Kural TV Creations.

Says Simbu: "Vaanam is releasing big worldwide on April 29 and I promise my fans it will be a treat for them ."

Akshay Kumar in ‘Ko’ Remake?

Looks like Bollywood stars other than Salman Khan do keep a keen note on Kollywood releases! With ‘Ko’ receiving a warm welcome by Tamil movie fans allover, there’s another feather to KV’s cap! Akshay Kumar of Bollywood watched KV Anand’s ‘Ko’ at a special screening in Mumbai and immediately called up KV and congratulated him on making such a good movie!
Sources say that Akshay Kumar is buying the remake rights for ‘Ko’ in Hindi as he truly awed the way KV had portrayed the photojournalist in the movie with affecting the commercial factors of the film. Akshay might produce the film under Hari Om Movies, and wants his dear friend, Anthony D’Souza to direct the flick. Akshay had earlier worked with Anthony for ‘Blue,’ a multi-starrer movie that released a couple of years back…
Akshay Kumar is known for giving some of the best films for Hindi film fans, whether the magic of ‘Ko’ will repeat, we’ll have to wait to know!

Rangam is equal to Ko

The dubbed version of Ko is being released in Telugu under the title Rangam. About 150 prints have been made as of now and filmmakers are planning to make some more prints depending on the response. Jiiva, the lead star in Ko, is confident that Rangam will do well in Telugu as it did in Tamil.
The Telugu audiences are also eagerly awaiting the release of Rangam as it has received decent reviews in Tamil and is setting the box office on fire here. Rangam has Jiiva and Karthiga playing the lead roles along with Pia Bajpai and Ajmal. The music has already been declared a hit, thanks to Harris Jayraj

Rangam Movie Review: 3 / 5

Jeeva, son of producer R B Chowdary trying his luck in Tollywood again with Rangam, his earlier movies Dishum Dishum and Ee bombed at box office. Karthika and Priya Bajpai paired opposite Jeeva in this movie. Actually Rangam was dubbed version of Tamil hit Ko. Let's see how this movie goes
Story: Ashwad a still photographer works as a journalist for a daily news paper. Priya (Karthika), Saro (Priya Bajpai) are colleagues of Ashwad. All the 3 journalists tries to bring more latest and breaking news to make their news paper popular. Ashwad captures leading politicians mis acts and publishes in paper, opposition leader Yogeshwar (Prakash Raj) dreams of becoming Chief Minister but Ashwad shows him as a corrupted through media.
Ashwad likes young politician Vasanth, hs friend and supports him during his election campaigns. suddenly a blast took place at one of Vasanth's meeting and Saro gets killed in hte blast. Later Ashwad knows Saro was not died in hte blast, she was just killed by some one. Vasanth becomes Chief Minister after the blast and elections. Wo killed Saro? Will Ashwad able to find them and brings them to justice or not? Rest forms the story.
Performances: Jeeva looked cool stylish, flawless and urbane in his character and has done exceedingly well. His dialogue delivery and body language are outstanding and brilliant. While performing action and serious scenes he perfectly transformed himself well and brought right dynamism.
Karthika who made her entry in Tollywood with Josh failed to bag good offers in Tollywood. But her role in Rangam is quite good and performed with ease. Piaa Bajpai, the second female lead is also good in the role of journo and is the right fit. Piaa looked simple and stylish. Ajmal has given equal performance to that of Jeeva and made an impressive performance. Prakash Raj and Kota Srinivasa Rao are good in their regular styles.
Story and the script of Rangam are the big plus for the movie apart from K V Anand’s excellent direction. He has made this film with heart and soul also adding few real life instances which are engrossing, entertaining and racy. KV Anand has elevated the human angle of the journalists. In fact Anand has clearly showed the guts, willpower and the passion towards the profession through Jeeva’s character. Music by Harris Jayaraj is undoubtedly outstanding.
On a whole Rangam is brave and pacy and engages you with the well designed story and neat screenplay. The film is surely a great entertainer and you will not get bored at any given point of time. Jeeva’s performance, Harris music, cinematography, songs picturisation and the climax are the highlights of Rangam. Audience might feel it as a Tamil movie in many frames, and the leads are new in Tollywood. Movie goes on slow phase and there is no comedy in the film. So it might run for a short time if advertised properly. On a whole I'm going with 3 out of 5 for this film.

Bottom Line: Movie with different feel – One time watchable

Rangam - Movie Review

What's it about!
Aswin (Jiva) is enthusiastic photojournalist working in a news daily called Neti Vaartha. Two female reporters Renuka (Karthika) and Saro (Pia) are close to him and both love him but his heart beats for only Renuka. On the other hand, a politician (Kota) and Chief-minister (Prakash Raj) try everything to come to power again in the coming elections. At the same time, a young and highly educated leader Vasanth (Ajmal) fields in the same elections and campaigns rigorously for clean politics. Aswin wholly supports Vasanth and publishes photos of wrongdoings of Kota and CM. At a massive campaign meeting of Vasanth, a bomb explodes killing several people including journalist Pia. This bomb incident creates further sympathy towards Vasanth and he comes to power. The film then throws a surprise twist.

Analysis

So far, cinematographer turned director K V Anand directed two Tamil films and both of them were released in Telugu. His third and latest Tamil blockbuster Ko comes into Telugu as Rangam. With this film, K V Anand joins the top league of directors in South India. His selection of plot and his narrative skills are superb. He mixes today's politics and journalism, and crime thriller elements effortlessly with a touch of commercial dose. Although Telugu dialogues in beginning are little bit hard to digest but once the movie picks up the momentum, you glue to the proceedings. Not once the movie sidetracks from the main story. K V Anand has shown complete grip on narration. Like director Shankar, K V Anand brings so much verve to the movie with his fast faced narration.

Best part of the movie is that the director completely goes with the plot rather than giving unnecessary focus to the heroism. He brings out heroism with the hero's actions than false buildup.

It is right mix of action, suspense, good performances by actors and taut narration. On the downside, the film's dialogues are so artificial in Telugu. The language used in the movie is bookish.

Performances

Tamil actor J iva completely goes into the skin of the character of a photojournalist. He is so natural in the role. He is main asset to the movie. He shows lots of energy required for the character and also exhibits restrain whenever necessary. The other guy who shines exceptionally is Ajmal in the role of a young politician. He looks handsome and emotes so well.

In the role of journalist, Karthika is fits well. She lacks glamour quotient in true sense but she plays her role perfectly. Newcomer Pia is just okay as bubbly journalist. Senior actors Kota and Prakash Raj don't go wrong.

The film completely belongs to the writer and director K V Anand . His narration is good, his picturisation is perfect and he also brings out best from the chief technicians - music director Haaris Jayaraj (background score is superb) and cinematographer Richard. The picturisation of two romantic duets - Enduko Emo and Nemali Kannula - is eye-catching. Editing by Anthony is slick.

The only technician who fails utterly is dialogue writer Sri Ramakrishna. The old man should watch Telugu films more, to know the present Telugu language being used. His words are so bookish and clichéd.

Bottom-line

Rangam is a fantastic film with contemporary story. Director K V Anand packages the movie as an action movie but it does have sensible storyline and narration is also equally good. It is racy. Go for it.
