      Thumbs up Sacred Games

I read Sacred Games around 4 years back for the first time. It was one of those works of art that forces you back into it's world time and time again. And for those who live in Mumbai, it's one of those rare portrayals that show you the actuality of this city. From the crowded kholis to the swanky malls, no other novel has come close to recreating Mumbai in all its beauty.

This was the reason why I was a little bit unsure when the novel was to be serialized albeit with exceptional talent in front of and behind the camera. Now that it's out on Netflix and after a long day of binge watch, I can say two things for certain

      1. This is a slightly different beast from the book. Character motivations and events differ from the book and although some instances have been Bollywoodized, at no point is this a lazy adaptation

2.This is not going to be the next Breaking Bad or the Americans. This is not a fast paced thriller that will capture the imaginations of the world all over. But this is undoubtedly India's best TV series and a respectable entry into a promising market cluttered with great foreign TV shows

Nawaz Bhai continues to astonish us each and every single time bringing new shades to a stunning character. Despite having a slightly less flashy character, the underrated Saif Ali Khan brings back his A game and takes us back to the time when he re invented itself. The entire cast consisting of Anurag Kashyap regulars and new faces are exceptionally well cast and since this is a TV series aimed at a very limited audience, the sex and violence is not watered down. Although the series takes its own sweet time to find its groove, it kicks into gear from the fourth episode and races to its cliffhanger finish

Despite telling an incomplete story, the very indication of Pankaj Tripathi being the next season's big baddie is more than enough for me to renew my subscription. Let the Golden age of Indian TV begin

      Rating :3.5/5(Very Good)
