Loham was sure Initial Record Breaker...Lalettan Meeshayum pirichu oru Ranjith Cinema released in Onam means business!!! Again aalukal expect cheyythathum, padam koduthathil thammil difference undaayirunnu. But if Shaji Kailas - Ranjith - Mohanlal join hands for a mass entertainer...and the movie gets 400+ theaters...It will break Odiyan or then movie's initial record easily!!!

I would argue Kayamkulam Kochunni was the game changer. It too released worldwide and collected 25 crores in 3 days, had a simultaneous release India and WW (except UK). Odiyan may be a success in Kerala but it also released in Tamil and Telugu languages and in both cases became a BO disaster. WW-GCC its collection is similar or slightly less than KK.

That said, where Odiyan is remarkable is how even with ultra negative WOM the movie got to 30 + crores. Sreekumar Menon's marketing strategy has to be given full credit for rejuvenating what seemed a sure shot disaster (especially Kanni Edukkam marketing). However, I feel that he treated the movie more as a business venture than actually any passion for storytelling and that will mean it won't be remembered for very long despite its laudable BO success.

But they also started to market Kochunni using the guest role of Pakki ever since Lalettan was roped in. A true game changer is a film like Pulimurugan which doubled the collection of existing industry hit with only 200+ screens while films releasing with 400+ screens can't even reach halfway mark of that after 2 years.
