The Jog Falls!!!!!!!
It has been quite a while that I have been on a week end trip. Mainly owing to the monsoons that has been lashing across Mangalore, and due to the busy marriage season during April-May. Finally this week end the plans were made, and off we went to Jog Falls, the highest waterfalls in India. We were a group of 6, in a Tavera. Jog Falls in 232kms from Mangalore, and there are a few routes to reach the spot. The ideal season is Aug-Oct to visit the place, when Jog would be in its full glory. We decided to cover the famous Murudeshwar temple also on the way, and the attraction here is the huge Shiva posture.  Then we set off for the falls. Jog falls, is actually a combo of 4 falls. Raja, Roarer, Rocket and Rani. When we reached the spot, it was raining, and heavy fog covered the area, and we were dissapointed that we would have to return with out getting to catch the falls. But soon, rain cleared and off it came, the mighty Jog falls. Jog is not yet in its full glory, which will happen when the Sharavathu dam gates are opened.     To catch the falls and enjoy the thrill to the core, one has to trek down to the base. 1384 steps will take you down to the base of the falls. From there its a risky trek through the slippery and sharp rocks to the literal point where the water touches the ground. The trek is extremely risky and for gods sake dont DRINK and go down. The trip was not free of incidents: There is a small portion, where one can swim and skip the rock trek for a small length. I went for it, and reached the rock where one get out of the water. Assuming that i can ground my feet, i stood, and down i went. man it was almost 12 feet deep, and some how managed to float up and swim to safety. But safety didnt last long. Slipped on one of the rocks, and injured my leg. The toe nail came off.     But it was a trip to cherish for life. Go grab any chance you get to go to the JOG.
