Mammootty is DADDY COOL: Dino's Take...Updated With Theater Pics on Page 1!!!

Show: 11 am FDFS! Status: All 10 of us in the balcony...around 20-25 in first class!!!(SAJ FDFS in the same theater, balcony was sold out 45 mins before the show!) THE FDFS EXPERIENCE! AH! Never in my wildest dreams i had imagined i would watch a mammootty film FDFS, but honestly I have always loved family films of mammootty like Pappayude Swantham Appoos n others of that ilk, and from the time this project was announced and once the impressive posters too made an appearance, i placed some expectations on this film. hence i was happy to note that the makers had a release simultaneously outside kerala too for this film. Thus, I ventured to the theater wiser from my experience of SAJ FDFS and reached pretty early expecting huge crowd, fans association banners, n stuff like that i encountered when i went to watch SAJ in the same theater maybe a month or two back!!! Imagine my surprise when I saw around 5 guys standing in the Rs. 10 counter and not even a single guy in the balcony counter!!! i came down to earth in an instant....it was the worst first day/first week attendance i have seen here for a malayalam superstar (i know there r some knowledgeable mammootty fan friends of mine away from India know better about his star power here in TN than me, but this is wot i saw!) THE MOVIE It starts off well, making me break into a smile n exclaiming to myself "well, i think am onto somethin' gud here!" when i saw the "Daddy My Daddy" song and a rocking "The Matrix" style intro of Mammootty. He also dons the James Bond 007 garb in the song, n he just rocks, lukswise!!! Dhananjay's energy in that song was infectious, i was supercharged.... please dont force me to write anything els on the rest of the movie...once Richa Pallod makes an entrance, the film starts going downhill....the first half is barely tolerable but all hell breaks loose in the second half, n when i thought i was the only one sitting exasperated in the theater, one guy from behind shouted "padam theerkkedaaa vegam"!!!! THE PERFORMANCES Mammootty: Simon John is not a character in which Mammootty has to do something exceptional. In fact, it is the first time I've seen Mammootty sleepwalk thru a role!! it was like somewhere he felt the film is going nowhere n he just did his job as a professional...nothing special!! He luks rockin as always, the chemistry with the kid is fab, but alas the director did not exploit that thread to its potential. I felt goosebumps when i saw him in the Shankardas getup from Azhakiya Ravanan, but once he starts enacting that role here, i wondered y he choose to kill a role that has been one of my favorite mammootty roles!!! and the less said about the RM getup, the better...it comes at a juncture where everyone is wondering what is happening and one cant even register if it is bellari raja on screen!!! Richa Pallod: I have some nice expletives flowing out of my mouth about this actress and her performance in this film, but since it is a public forum, i despise using foul language! Dhananjay: Rockin' dude, jus' rockin'!!! i was jus' visualizin' my son grow up n sing the song "daddy my daddy" when i saw dhananjay rock the screen with that song! Child artistes sometimes tend to overperform, but this guy tho has some problems at times with the dubbing, did pretty well! Daniel Balaji: God knows what he was doing in the film!!! He is supposed to b the eccentric villain a la Vettaiyadu Vilayaadu, but he turns out to be the comedian of the movie!!! Baburaj: A special mention here, because he plays an officer who is always interested in viewing porn/masala clips and corny enuff to catch a copy of "FIRE" magazine even while on a criminal chase...does it remind any of u about a lovable member of our forum???? yes thats it!!! i wonder aashiq abu has met this member before!!! DIRECTION I read a chitrabhoomi quote of aashiq abu prerelease..."chila cinemakal kaanumbol theateril irunn nammal vijaarikkille, endhinu nammale ingane drohikkunnu enn...aareyum drohikkaatha oru kandirikkaavunna film aavum entedh...adh njaan urappu parayaam!" well, mr. abu, what else were u doing to the viewer except "droham" after the first half an hour ryt from Richa Pallod's intro scene....she was doing kathakali mudhras all over the screen...does that not classify as "droham" to u??? it was an eyesore to watch her "act!" the first "droham" u did was cast her as the heroine mr. abu...and did the amal neerad/RGV hangover get into u in the second half because what started off as an interesting thread between the dad and son turns out into a full blown mindless actioner full of "amal neerad/rgv" slow-mo fights, hairy drug addict villains, n what not!!! and how about that hong kong song which starts off with the dad n son sleeping in their cochin flat n telling "vaa nammukk adichupolikkaam" n then the song happens in hongkong at the end of which the dad n son r watching Pokkiri in EKM Kavita theater!!! NO WORDS EXCEPT EXCLAMATIONS, MR. ABU!!!! n as if the whole film was not enuff, u proceed to inflict more "droham" on the viewer by making mammootty "dance" once the film is over to the title track, a la SAJ theme song!!! hope u reduce ur "droham" dose in ur second film, that is, if u ever make one again!!! MUSIC Bijibal, thanx for "Daddy My Daddy"..........! thats all...n go bury urself for that "item song!" CAMERA Sameer Thahir kollaam, one of the few positives of the film....someday, this guy will make a gud director i feel...the frames r rich for the most part! ACTION Anal Arasu, sorry it is not ur mistake, but the audience were already having a headache n' ur Bigb-SAJ inspired action scenes were only a distraction, nothing els! EDITING Saajan....nothin much to write home about....cud've done with that song starting in kochi, going hongkong, back in ekm theater! If i missed anything els, it was deliberate....i was harsh, i am sorry to all of u reading this review, but i did not like this film...this review is not to offend anyone but honestly as a viewer who went to this film expecting a lot, i am in an exhausted condition.... am writing this review jus' coz all of u pals here had asked me to put one and i cudnt refuse...!!! DINO'S TAKE: Tolerable first half, and an exasperating second half n climax...skip this daddy, he aint cool at all!!! pics kaananam kaananam enn shadichirunna ente suhruthukkalkkaai...especially, indiakku purathirunn keralathileyum tamilnaattileyum status arachukudikkunna ente "swantham" suhruthalkkaai....delay aayathil khedhikkunnu...! 1. coimbatorente sontham Carnatic...kazhinja kurachu kaalamaayi malayalathile oruvidham ellaa releasesum ivide thanneyaanu, RC, SAJ, Passenger, Bhaagyadevatha, 2HHN, n now DC....entrance view of Carnatic taken on 07-08-09:50 am...  2. njaan theateril ethumhol ee kakshi bikeil irippundaairunnu..bayangara thirakkundaavumenn karuthi ennekkaal munne theateril etthi inji kadicha kurangineppole avide irippundaairunnu...kurachu kazhinjappo "aarem kaanunnillallo" enna vidhathil theaterinte munnil nippundaairunnu, i wanted to take a pic of his the moment i saw him, i got a chance with his back to me, with the DC poster as backdrop...taken on 07-08-09 @10 a.m.!!   3. 10:15....adhaa mmade balcony counterinakathu aalanakkam....ini mam fans engaanum tickets okke aadhyame reserve cheydh vechittundaakumo enna samshayathil njaan counterilek...shot this while walkin into the balcony counter to take my ticket...."ekaanthathayude apaaratheeram...."  4. thirakkonnumillenn tiket eduthappo pudikkitti, oru coke okke adich 1030 aayille keriyekkaam ennum karuthi njaan nere balcony areayilekk....tiket murikkunna annan avide urakkam thoongi irippundaairunnu....  5. ticket murichu akathu keriya njaan onnu pedichu....2 per irippundaairunnu...oru bheekara tamil dappaamkutthu paattum...time 1035...tiket annante aduthu "ippo varen" ennum paranju njaan veendum snacks adikkaan poyi...mmade refreshment counterinte aduth ninnu ee Daddyum chila posing okke cheydhu...time kollande!!!  1050 aayi...balconyil ninnum ozhinja theaternte kidilan view...vidaan pattuo...adhum clicki...randu narunthupiller nadannu varunnundenn thonnunnu...kandaalariyaam raayamanikyam series kand ikka pans aaya randu peekkirikalaanenn....ee foto koodi eduth njaan hallinakathu keri...11 manikk padam thudangille!!! appol KKyude Junoon odikondirikkunnu...strengthum koodiyittundaairunnu 7 per....pinneyum oru 3 per vannu...pandaaradangaan padam thudangikazhinj, to irritate me, they passed ryt in front of me at the time of ikka's intro!!!
