Device to prevent film piracy

T’puram: An antipiracy device to prevent recording of movies from theatres using sophisticated mobile phones or handycams to make pirated copies, has been devised by a city based software engineer.
****Varghese Babu, who invented the device, said that he had developed it after a three-year research.
****Named ‘Demolish Duplica’, the device has a hardware unit which is placed in movie theatres. The moment someone tries to record a film, the hardware unit recognizes it and stops the recording. Simultaneously an alert will be sent to a server and the antipiracy cell of police. “The serial number of the mobile phone or the handycam gets recorded on the hardware device, and details of the location from where the recording is being done can be found by the authorities,” said the 30-year-old software engineer. He added that the product could also track copying of the film during the editing process.
****“I have been receiving inquiries from the film industry and at the moment I am completing the formalities for getting this patented,” Babu said.
****The product has been priced at Rs 15 lakhs.
