Pranayam - My Review!

Date : 03-Sep-2011 Status : 20% Blessy-Lalettan combo strikes gold yet again with this unforgettable ode to the most beautiful feeling in the world - LOVE! Not going into the plot details... For me, presently there is no other director in Malayalam other than Blessy who can depict this complex theme without making it too filmy or cheezy, which proves that he is indeed the true disciple of the best ever film-maker of Malayalam cinema, Sir Padmarajan!! About the performances, all the three protagonists were absolutely living in their respective roles... Anupam Kher was excellent with his subtle emotions though his dubbing was not proper mainly in the initial portions.. Jayapradha comes up with a very powerful act, which can be considered one of her career best performances by portraying the various complex outlooks of the character so convincingly! And last but not the least, the real scene-stealer of the movie, the man who portrayed the ailed character who thinks that life is more beautiful than a dream, our personal pride, LALETTAN, yet again reinvents the idiom of acting even from the confines of a wheelchair, which underlines the fact that he is indeed THE best actor our country has ever produced! Watchout for his amazing body language and the stupendous dialougue delivery especially during the penultimate moments which makes this an absolute delight for any cinelover which marks the 300th film of this living legend!! Coming to the supporting cast, all of them did justice to their roles eventhough most of them aren't well developed while giving more importance to the protagonists.. Among them, Anoop Menon delivers a very controlled performance making a mark among the three titans! Another major highlight of the movie is its excellent dialogues with a poetic beauty bestowed into them... Direction was top-notch with Blessy's dictinctive signature! The screenplay was well structured barring the initial hiccups/shaky start and a couple of dragging portions in the second half! Talking about technical aspects, this is one area where Blessy keeps on improvising after each movie! Cinematography was awe-inspiring and poetic like the whole movie, with stunning visuals which goes very much in synch with the narrative! Editing was impressive! Musically, the film offers a very good soundtrack with meaningful lyrics, interesting visualizations and touching BG score! All in all, Blessy delivers yet another moving cinematic experience by bringing the 3 acting legends of Indian cinema together with excellent lines and technical aspects! Must watch for all cine lovers who are craving for meaningful films with scintillating performances! Verdict - Class! Haunting ode of true love! Rating - 8.5/10
