KANNUR The first Christmas cake in India was baked in Thalassery, a city in south Indian state of Kerala which is also famous for circus, cricket and communism. It is now set to celebrate the 129th anniversary of the first cake on January 21 and 22.
It was a British order in 1883 that led to the baking of a Christmas cake for the first time in the country. Kerala Bakers’ Association (KBA) wants the occasion to be a memorable one. It will bake an egg-free cake weighing about 1,200 kilograms with pictures of 400 prominent personalities, including Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Dr BR Ambedkar and Sree Naryana Guru iced to perfection on top of it.

Business Line : Industry & Economy / Logistics : Kannur airport to be ready by 2015
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb. 8: The first phase of the proposed international airport at Kannur would be completed by 2014, the Kerala Excise Minister and the in-charge of the project, Mr K. Babu, said today. The first flight would land at Kannur airport in 2015, he said after the decision taken at a meeting with Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (KINFRA) which decided to provide 645 acres to the project. Tenders would be floated in April for the construction of the runway. The project, which was a flagship programme of the Government, would be completed within the time schedule, the Minister told reporters here. He said 26 per cent of shares would be vested with the Government and an equal share would be given as land to the Kannur airport project. The airport would get 453 acres through this deal with the co-operation of KINFRA, he said.
