Default BADLA ~ JUNE ~ THADAM ~ An Opinion (for Each)

The movie seems to be a faithful remake of the Spanish Movie, The Invisible Guest. But I felt the title of the movie and Sujoy Ghosh's most acclaimed work played spoilsport to a certain extend including the suspense. The narrative technique implied here is to put audience in a state of confusion regarding the motive and attitude of the two main protagonists played by Amitabh Bachchan & Tapasee Pannu. Due to this, the film requires 100% attention from the audience side so that they don't get lost during the narration. Since the movie is adapted from an acclaimed work, Sujoy didn't seem to bring unnecessary changes in the original script. The highpoint of the movie is the engaging narration mainly due to solid performances from Amitabh Bachchan & Tapasee Pannu. While Big B shown his experience as a seasoned actor, Tapasee had to go through a range of emotions with an almost poker face which is commendable. Amritha Singh did a fine job in the supporting role.

Overall, Badla is a well made thriller which thrills....but I cannot call it exceptional since the film is not an original work.

June is the feminine version of "Premam" and bit of "Om Shaanti Oshaana". While OSO was loud and filmy, June had sincere take on coming of age version of a girl (from her +2 life to Marriage). The movie seriously have a feel good effect throughout the movie where the film didn't go overboard at any point (eventhough I really wanted to see a normal high school where they give such freedom to boys & gals mingling). The Plus 2 life was well shot and narrated and had the apt detailing. It established June, Noel and rest of the gang along with June's parents. No unnecessary characters or scenes for any commercial purpose. But the portions where I felt a bit let down was the execution post June-Noel chapter. Rather I felt the movie suddenly given too much attention to that chapter by ignoring June's college life, her professional life in Mumbai and incidents prior to marriage. At times, I got confused where the debutante director Ahmed Khabeer was doing her version of Classmates through June. I wished he had the confidence of Alphonse Putheran to give a bit more detailing to June-Anand chapter and her college life. This is only because the sweet brilliance he displayed throughout the movie. The movie carried some absolutely memorable scenes like the breakup scene between Noel & June. There was no male bashing and the dialogues were quite refreshing.

Rejisha Vijayan delivered a stellar performance as June. I think Nazriya take a lesson or to from her regarding how to display cuteness without overacting. And Rejisha doesn't do only looking cute. The scenes with Noel especially the fights displayed her mettle as an actress. Joju George & Ashwathy were superb as parents. Ajju Varghese was "Enthino Thilaykkunna Sambhar", A surprise cameo was totally ineffective. Thats mainly because of the performance from the bunch of newcomers who played Noel, Anand and rest of the +2 gang. They all delivered natural and believable performances.

Songs from Ifti weren't impressive at all. The art direction was noticeable in terms of detailing.

In the category of Feel Good Movies, I seriously recommend JUNE!!! For me, the best film from Friday Film House!!

The reason I went to see this movie was because of @ittichen. Also other good reviews from net along with Movie Marathon played a key role too. But my expectations were controlled mainly because I found many overrating so called Tamil Thrillers.

Magizh Thirumeni made a movie based on real life incidents and he somewhat came up with an engaging cinema despite a slightly Nolanesque 30-40 minutes start. Thankfully, we don't have a serial killer or any killer who has a sorry post (which seems to be the trend in Tamil). But my issue with the movie was the maker is trying to over-complicate things in order to support the twists & turns. Maybe, its due to Badla effect, but I saw two filmmakers implying the same "confuse the audience" technique so that eventhough they get the plot, they don't have an idea regarding whats going on. Again I found the suspense pretty easily mainly because of the over-complicating tactic. Still the movie was quite engaging eventhough I honestly didn't see much of a brilliance in the direction or the script. No unnecessary comedy sequences from George Maryan or Yogi Babu and songs becoming a hurdle!!!

Arun Vijay delivered a good performance. Rest of the cast did a fine job eventhough Vidya Pradeep went overboard during the climax scene.

This is an engaging thriller if you go with normal expectations. Ratchasan had a brilliance of a director with a normal script which I didn't see in this movie.
