VELAYUDHAM
![]() ![]() Illayathalapathy Vijay is currently busy with his 51st film Kaavalkaran (remake of Malayalam hit Bodyguard) directed by Siddique. The film also marks the re-entry of Asin in South Indian cinema after a gap. Vijay will team up with Jayam Raja after completing Kaavalkaran for a film tentatively titled Velayudham with Devi Sri Prasad?????????? expected to compose the music; it will be produced by Aascar Ravichandran. There are reports that bubbly Genelia will play one of the leading ladies in the film. Interesting this will be Genelia’s second film opposite Vijay after Sachin. The producers are reportedly planning a grand movie launch at Nehru Stadium in June. Hansika Motwani’s demand in Kollywood is soaring — the young actress has already bagged her second Tamil film even before her debut film is out. Hansika has been cast opposite Vijay in his next film Velayudham. While confirming this to DC, the producer of the film Aascar Ravichandran, said, “Director Jeyam Raja felt that Hansika would be the best choice for the role that he had conceived. Recently we also completed a photo shoot with Vijay and Hansika. The other heroine in the film is Genelia.” He also clarified that contrary to speculation, this film is not a remake of the Telugu film Azad. When asked about the buzz in the industry that Shah Rukh Khan is expected to launch the film, Aascar added, “He has agreed to come and we are just waiting for a confirmation. I will know the status in a couple of days.”Even though Harris Jayaraj has been approached to compose the music, industry insiders reveal that it could be Vijay Antony who is likely to be roped in. Aascar Ravichandran, producer of Vijay's 52nd film tentatively titled 'Velayudham', is planning to hold the movie's launch function at the stadium, in the presence of big guns of the industry. Remember Ravichandran conducted the audio launch function of Kamal Haasan's K S Ravikumar directed 'Dasavatharam' in the same place, and the event was attended by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Jackie Chan among others. It is said that the launch of the movie directed by 'Jayam' Raja would be held at the Nehru Stadium by June and those at Aascar are busy making arrangements for the grand event Hansika Motwani even before a single release in Tamil has become the hottest heroine in Kollywood. She is ‘Ilayathalapathy’ Vijay’s heroine in his next film Velayutham directed by Jayam Raja and produced by Aascar Ravichandran. Hansika has almost completed the shoot of her first film in Tamil, Dhanush’s Maapillai, and has also signed up Jayam Ravi’s Prabhu Deva directed Itch. The ‘pooja’ of Velayutham will take place shortly at Nehru Stadium, as the producer launched his last film Dasavatharam at the same venue. The buzz is that Vijay and Hansika did a photo shoot for the film at a studio in Chennai. The works for Vijay's new film ‘Velayudham’ directed by ‘Jayam’ Raja is silently progressing even as Vijay is busy with ‘Kaavalkaran’. A grand launching ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium is also being worked out by Aascar Ravichandran of Aascar films. Meanwhile the gripping buzz at the moment is the choice of heroines. Sources close to the film say ‘Velayudham’ will have two heroines and there are three girls under discussion. Genelia who earlier did ‘Sachin' with Vijay, Hansika Motwani who has become a hot heroine even before the release her first Tamil film ‘Mappillai’ opposite Dhanush and Kajal Agarwal who is high on the priority list after ‘Mahadheera’. ‘Jayam’ Raja is likely to announce the final cast as early as this month end. On Sunday, Hansika Motwani flew down to Chennai from Mumbai to do a photo shoot with the star at a studio in Saligramam, for producer Aascar Ravichandran’s Jayam Raja directed Velayutham. The film is rumoured to be a remake of Nagarjuna’s Telugu hit Azad (released way back in 2000), which was inspired from Amitabh Bachchan’s 1989 flop Main Azad Hoon, which was in turn a carbon copy of Frank Capra’s 1941 classic Meet John Doe! Vijay will have two heroines — Genelia and Hansika — in the film and will play a fictitious ‘man of the masses’ created by a female journalist. For the first time ever, Harris Jayaraj will provide music for a Vijay film. The producer of Velayutham, Aascar Ravichandran, is veteran producer and distributor who controls more than 30 screens in NSC area, and has a proven track record with hits like Anniyan and Dasavatharam. Remember, it was Ravichandran who made Vijay a superstar when he took over the marketing of Kadhalukku Mariyadhai in 1996. A source close to Vijay said, “Vijay sir is reworking his mass hero image to suit the taste of family audiences. Kavalkaran and Velayutham are carefully planned out projects and he is sure to bounce back with these films followed by the 3 Idiots remake.”
