"I am not a superstar to get arelease on Eid, Diwali orChristmas" - Ranbir Kapoor

*Ranbir Kapoor wants to play humbleand being honest. Even as euphoriacontinues to build aroundand one waits to see whether theyoung actor along with directorImtiaz Ali indeed manage to createLikethe kind of magic on screen which isexpected out of them, Ranbir iswilling to acknowledge that he is not(yet) a superstar that some aroundhim want him to believe. This stemsfrom the fact that he is still awaitinga fixed slot for arrival of his films onfestive occasions, something that thetop superstars in Bollywood havealready staked their claim on.

"Salman Khan has made Eid his ownand next year withwould make it four in a row afterWanted, DabanggAamir Khan always likes to reserveChristmas for him (Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini, 3 IdiotsShahrukh Khan has a Diwali fixation (this year it wasyear it would be Yash Chopra's yetuntitled version). Ajay Devgn andRohit Shetty like coming on Diwali aswell (case in point being their lasttwoGolmaalAll The Best) while Akshay Kumar too aspires forDiwali or Christmas", says a tradeexpert, "A superstar status is prettymuch established from this very factthat audience expect your film toarrive at a certain expected date."

Though this can be pretty muchexpected from veterans, of late evenyoungsters have started picking andchoosing their lucky arrival timelines. This is most evident in case of ImranKhan and Anushka Sharma who arepretty much hand picking a date andgetting it too.

"Imran feels that Summer season isthe best for his films and hence mostof his films release in the month ofJuly", a source adds, "Whether it isDelhi Belly, I Hate Luv StorysTu... Ya Jaane Naaarrived in July. On the other handAnushka's hit run has continued withRab Ne Bana Di JodiBaarat releasing in second week ofDecember and the same has beenplanned forLadies v/s Ricky Bahl."

In this context, the only other majoryoung celebrity who is yet to have afixed arrival time for his films isRanbir Kapoor. In fact histoo saw quite a few changes in itsrelease arrival over last few monthsbefore zeroing in on 11/11/11.Though this is indeed a special date,Ranbir insists that it wasn't plannedthis way.

On quizzed, he says in a humble tone,"Guess we got lucky to get even thisdate. See, I am not a superstar to geta release on Eid, Diwali or Christmasso I better be happy with the bestthat I get."

"I would like to play Kishore Kumar" - Ranbir Kapoor

It was the last but certainly not the least session of an eventful 3 days at FICCI-Frames 2012. The Valedictory session saw filmmaker Karan Johar in conversation with the two people behind one of last year's best films- Rockstar namely Imtiaz Ali and Ranbir Kapoor.

The packed audience, who had been waiting for over an hour, erupted with joy, the moment Ranbir arrived along with Imtiaz and Karan.

Karan started the session in his trademark humorous style when he told Ranbir, "We will promise not to talk about your personal life". Ranbir shyly replied, "Thank You Sir".

KJo first asked the duo about how Rockstar was born? Imtiaz said, "I was actually supposed to make this before Jab We Met with John Abraham but things didn't quite fall in place. I then put it on a back burner until many years later Ranbir (who had heard that I was making such a film) came up to me and asked me to again think about making it." Ranbir added, "During the release of Saawariya, I had heard about Imtiaz planning to make a film about a musician who becomes big only after suffering heartbreak. The story kind of fascinated me and many years later when I met Imtiaz, I asked him about the project and in fact told him to make it with me."

Speaking more about the Rockstar experience, Ranbir said, "We didn't take the process of filming too seriously. I was in love with everything associated with the film be it Imtiaz or Nargis or Rahman Sir or Mohit or Irshad bhai. We all truly and completely believed in Imtiaz's vision. Imtiaz is an organic filmmaker who creates a beautiful world and characters. I remember after pack-up, I couldn't remember what shot I had given that particular day. It was all a blur. After the film got over, it kind of left me empty, I felt a certain void hard to explain in words. This film has given me much more than I have ever got in the last 28 years of my life." Imtiaz further added, "During one of the initial days of Rockstar, I remember Ranbir and I had gone out and we ended up chatting about a lot of things. I remember Ranbir telling me that I am looking to undergo heartbreak to actually get into the skin of the character." Hearing this Karan in his own inimitable style remarked tongue-in-cheek, "Oh…heartbreaks! But isn't that Ranbir's forte, one of his strengths." Ranbir had no option but to reply, "Sir I have never got my heart broken"

When Karan asked Imtiaz if he was satisfied with the film, Imtiaz said, "I don't think any filmmaker is ever satisfied with his work. I still feel there are so many things / areas which I could have done better. Having said that, there is something gratifying when you receive positive audience reactions. Yes the response has been mixed but I am happy that a lot of people took a liking to the film." Ranbir too added, "Rockstar will always be an experience for me to cherish forever. You are compelled to do good work when you work with a director as brilliant as Imtiaz. I really hope that I get an opportunity to work with him again in the future."

Moving away from Rockstar, Karan asked Ranbir what he felt when people call him the Gen-Next Superstar and the Next Big Thing in Bollywood? Ranbir replied, "These are frivolous terms. I don't know how to react, I can neither agree nor disagree when people say such things. I am here to do good work and that's all that matters. I am glad that people have taken a liking to me and have appreciated my work."

Karan also asked the duo about their favourite films of 2011. Imtiaz said, "To be honest I was really busy with Rockstar so didn't get an opportunity to see too many films. Out of the ones I watched, I really liked Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara- it was a lot of fun and by the end of it, it also made me emotional. I also liked Shor In The City for its unique approach to story-telling." Ranbir added , "I too liked ZNMD, Delhi Belly was a lot of fun too and by the way Karan did you produce anything last year?" The audience had a good laugh at this humorous response by the young actor.

Imtiaz got coy when Karan asked him why hasn't he repeated any of the actors he has worked with till date. "There is no reason as such Karan. It's just coincidence that I haven't worked with any of my actors again. I don't think they want to work with me again. I'm sure Saif and Shahid aren't willing to work with me again", said Imtiaz jokingly.

It was then time for a quick Q-n-A round with the members of the audience asking Ranbir and Imtiaz questions of their choice. When someone asked Ranbir how he felt to be carrying the RK legacy forward, Ranbir said, "It's a great feeling. My family has been associated with Hindi cinema for over 80 years and I am proud of the family that I come from. "

When another audience member asked Ranbir, which iconic character he would like to play in the future, the actor replied, "I would like to play Kishore Kumar on screen but it's a damn scary thought to even try and attempt that. Kishore Kumar was such a colourful personality, full of life, energetic and charismatic that I am scared if I would be able to do justice to it."

Finally when audience members asked the trio for their comments on the Little Master- Sachin Tendulkar scoring his 100th international century, Karan said, "We just have to applaud him for his achievements. I remember a little child in my building telling me once 'There is GOD and there is Sachin Tendulkar.'" Imtiaz too added by saying, "I don't think there will be anyone bigger and greater than Sachin Tendulkar in our times." Ranbir had the final say, "I hope and pray he can give us 100 more centuries. He truly has what it takes."

Ranbir Kapoor turns tapori

After playing a rockstar in Imtiaz Ali's film in 2011, Ranbir Kapoor is ready to explore roles in varied genres this year.

With the shoot of Ayaan Mukerji's romance Yeh Jawaani Hai Diwani already on floors, and Anurag Kashyap's period film Bombay Velvet in his kitty, the actor has now signed Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap's next. In the film, Ranbir will be seen playing a character akin to Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg. The venture will be co-produced by Abhinav and Viacom 18.

However, getting Ranbir to sign on the dotted lines had not been easy for the filmmaker. Mumbai Mirror has found out that Abhinav had to change his original plans considerably to get Ranbir say 'yes' to his project. "Abhinav had initially wanted to make a film titled Karnaama with Ranbir in the lead.

That was supposed to be an adventure film. But later, he along with Viacom 18 head honcho Vikram Malhotra decided to put aside plans of making Karnaama. At least for the time being," said a source close to the production house.

The new project will see Ranbir playing a tapori. "His character is that of a bold, upfront, street smart guy. His body language and talking style will be very Mumbaiyya," added the source. The actor will have to attend workshops to improve his Mumbaikar accent, revealed the source.

The source also told us that Ranbir has already allotted dates for the film that will go on floors this November. However, the female lead has not been finalised yet.

We found out that the music will be composed by Lalit (of Jatin-Lalit fame). "Sajid-Wajid and Lalit had been the music directors in Abhinav's last film as well. This time too there won't be any change. They have a great working equation," said the source.

Despite repeated attempts, Ranbir and Viacom 18 chose not to comment.

Aankhen remake with Ranbir?

Around a year back there were strong talks about Rohit Shetty remaking Sanjiv Kumar starrer Angoor with Shah Rukh Khan. In fact the director and the actor had apparently agreed on the basic premise as well which was inspired by William Shakespeare's play 'Comedy of Errors', only to drop the idea and make Chennai Express instead. Just when the rumours had settled, grapevine has it that Ranbir Kapoor may have been approached to step into the same shoes. The only tiny problem though is that except for Ranbir himself, everyone else seems to be aware about the development.

"Ranbir has absolutely no idea from where are these rumours originating. He hasn't even heard about any such film and nothing has been offered to him yet. It is strange that his name has been dragged into this so-called remake which is supposed to go on floors soon", says a close associate of the actor.

The film in question is supposed to be directed by Pahlaj Nihalani, producer of many hit films like Aankhen, Shola Aur Shabnam, Paap Ki Duniya, Aag Hi Aag and Ilzaam. All these films were successful on 80s and 90s though and he was supposed to have shown keen interest in roping in Ranbir Kapoor for his comeback affair.

"He has actually chosen William Shakespeare's play 'Comedy of Errors' which was further adapted into films like Angoor [Sanjiv Kumar, Deven Verma] and before that Do Dooni Chaar [Kishore Kumar, Asti Sen]. Even though he is saying that his film with Ranbir is a remake of his own Aankhen and attributing the source to be Do Dooni Chaar, the fact is that except for the double role bit for both lead actors, there is nothing similar about them. There are too many sources being mixed up here when the fact is that Aankhen had nothing to do with either Do Dooni Chaar or Angoor", says an insider.

To add to the (unintended) confusion in this (hardly a) comedy of error, there are also talks of not just Ranbir but even Shahid Kapoor signed for the film.

While Shahid Kapoor chose to ignore any such talks and was unavailable for comment, Ranbir was caught by surprise with such so-called 'developments'. He categorically denied doing any such film and said, "This isn't true. In fact leave aside working on the film; I haven't even met Mr. Pahalaj Nihalani."

Guess the makers are indulging in some real time comedy of errors here!

Ranbir's old man look

For his latest TV commercial for a mobile company, Bollywood's biggest heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor has donned the look of an old man. The 29 year old actor sports a wrinkled face, receding grey hair, a moustache and thick frames.

The actor who has previously sported the looks of a sardar and a rockstar, for the first time in his career sports the look of an old man.

While everyone is praising Ranbir's 'different' look in the commercial, Ranbir's forthcoming film Barfii's director Anurag Basu is quite miffed with his old man look being out in public, as the actor sports a similar look in the film and Anurag wanted the look to be kept under wraps for a while and come as a surprise to the audience.

Ranbir to get a makeover for his next film

Ranbir Kapoor is all set to don a new look for his role in Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet.

"The character has very close-cropped hair in the film. After a lot of discussions and deliberations, the look was finally chosen.

It'll be a challenge for Ranbir to carry it off, and he is very excited about it," says a source. Kapoor will be experimenting with his looks in other films too - an old man in Barfi, and pierced ears in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.
