Default >> Padma Bhushan Kamal Haasan - The man of class and commitment <<

When I say Kamal Haasan, the first thing that comes to mind is his abundant talent and acting prowess. Undoubtedly one of India's top and best actors. Actor par comparison, well trained classical dancer, ex dance director, moderately good singer , successful producer and a good director.

This is the golden jubilee year for Kamal in the film industry. Really tough for a person to withstand in an industry where many come and go daily. But he stood on top, as an icon.

Lets discuss about the legend here... about his acting and life in the silver screen.

In his five-decade-long career he has acted in more than 150 films in different Indian languages, directed movies and won several awards. Kamal Haasan, one of the finest actors of Indian cinema, completes 50 years in showbiz this year and fans are busy preparing to celebrate his remarkable journey.

"Kamal Haasan completes 50 years of his meritorious journey in the film industry. He has acted in the films of all the four South Indian languages and even in Hindi and Bengali films. No other actor in the country has achieved such distinctions in his career and created milestones for himself. Kamal fans all around are planning to celebrate this event in a grand manner," said Prakash, secretary of the Kamal Fans Association in Karnataka.
He says that they are co-ordinating with Kamal's fans in Chennai to organise an event on Aug 12 - the day his first film was released way back in 1960.

Kamal gave his first short in 1959 for the film "Kalaththoor Kannamma" when he was only five years old. Produced by AVM Productions and directed by Bhim Singh, the film was released Aug 12, 1960. While Gemini Ganesan and Savitri played lead roles, Kamal featured as a child artist and had even sung a popular song "Ammavum Neeye Appavum Neeye" in it.

Kamal had won the best child actor National Award for his performance in his debut film.

He also won the best actor national awards for "Moondram Pirai" (1982), "Nayagan" (1987) and "Indian" (1996). In 1988, he won the Best Actor Filmfare Award for "Pushpak", a black comedy that didn't have any dialogue. Apart from that, he has won several honours like Nandi awards and Tamil Nadu state film awards.

He also has the distinction of being the actor with the most number of films submitted by India for the Academy Award in Best Foreign Language Film category.

According to sources, the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) is organising a big event to felicitate Kamal. Though the preparations have started, the SIFCC is contemplating have the felicitation first in Chennai and then in other south Indian metros.

Kamal's fans wanted him to release "Unnai Pol Oruvan", a remake of the critically acclaimed Hindi movie "A Wednesday", on Aug 12. But the release has been delayed by post-production work.

Actor-director Ramesh Arvind, who has worked with Kamal in films like "Sathi Leelavathi", "Panchathanthram"and "Mumbai Express" in Tamil and "Rama Shaama Bhaama" in Kannada, says "If there is one multilingual talent in the Indian film industry who truly deserves a big felicitation for completing a golden jubilee in filmdom, it is only Kamal".

"He is an inspiration to generations of artists and directors. He has created his own benchmarks in several segments of filmmaking including acting, writing scripts and direction. He started his career as a child artist in films to become one of the most versatile artists in the world.

"He is a universal hero in every sense of the term. I will be waiting for the big day of this event to personally congratulate him," said Arvind who took up direction on Kamal's advice.

<table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="90%"><tbody><tr><td><table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td class="contentHead">It’s Golden Jubilee for Kamal!</td></tr> <tr><td class="black"> IndiaGlitz [Monday, August 03, 2009] </td></tr></tbody></table> </td> </tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td> <table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tbody><tr><td class="black"> Since the day when Tamil Cinema embraced and welcomed him as a kid, it has been a long journey for the multi-talented actor to reach the place where he is today. Going rear 50 years down the time, 12th August is the day he entered as a child artist in the film ‘Kalathur Kannamma’. For our senior citizens it will look as if he is still the same lean, innocent looking boy with a fire of aspiration in his eyes. His achievements, in every turf of cinema he gets in, are worth of appreciation, praise and are worth given an illustration. Now he is a Living Legend of the Indian Film Industry and had plans of releasing his latest venture ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ on 12th August to mark his 50th year in cinema.

His trajectory in the Indian film industry is one prototypical journey, where he started as a child artist, then continued as a romantic hero, and finally evolved into one of the best multifaceted actors Indian Cinema has ever produced. Let it be the Chappani character of ‘16 Vayathiniley’ or the psychopath of ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’ he had done a wide array of versatile performances. We witness Kamal as an actor of class, resourcefulness and perfectionist who gave life for all the roles he stepped into - from hero to villain, man to woman and a dwarf. Today, he is at a point where no one could reach him at all. Off track we have also seen him occasionally working through the commercial roles may be to finance the movies he wanted to produce with his heart. But we do recognize that the movies that resulted out of his artistic potential were in a class apart.

He has satisfied the film critics and his fans at the same time all the way through his career, which is off-course filled with roses and thorns. His filmography filled with achievements and accolades is still getting sophisticated with his thirst to learn more. Apart from his involvement in acting he has also got a great hunger for something else, which many actors don’t talk much about. Yes, he is an actor who gives more credence to the script of his films. In order to fulfill his thirst and to publicize the importance of script-writing, he had recently organized a workshop in association with IIT Madras.

Latest of his delivery ‘Dasavatharam’ also proved his commitment to cinema, playing ten roles. As we all know following the sensation of ‘Dasavatharam’ he is producing and starring in the speedy project, titled ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’, co-starring with him is Malayalam super star Mohanlal. Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruthi is the music composer of ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’. Without forgetting the day on which our Ulaga Nayagan entered the filmdom is fast approaching, fans requested the star to release Unnaipol Oruvan on the same day.

Now, keeping the sentimental aspect of the release date away we also have another valid point to look on. That is the film has a chance to dominate the theaters for more days as it is the Independence Day weekend. But then, came the news as a wave of disappointment for the fans of Kamal saying that the release date of the movie is still unconfirmed. But does that mean our Ulaganayagan will keep his fans inactive on that very special day? Off course not! A birdie twitters that a big plan is running to celebrate the Golden Jubilee in a grand manner by inviting all the big-wigs of Indian film Industry to Chennai. The list of the invitees includes Big B, Shah Ruk Khan, Mammooty and every big name. With so much of anticipation for that big day, we just can’t wait to see it turn to be a great show. Don’t you wish to know more on this extravaganza? Then just get back for more on it!

Fifty years have gone by since 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal faced the camera as a very cute and innocent-looking boy in the film 'Kalathur Kannamma'. The actor has grown in stature by leaps and bounds in the succeeding five decades and is still going strong. Kamal's fans clubs are said to be planning to celebrate the 'fifty-year long stint' of their Thalaivar in a grand manner.

Superstar Rajnikanth, actor Suriya and lyricist Vairamuthu have reportedly consented to participate in the function. Besides Kollywood's VIPs, the fans are planning to make superstars from other languages too to participate in the grand-gala event. A popular vernacular channel has come forward to foot the huge expenditure in connection with the event.

An effort is on to make a list of all those heroines who have acted opposite Kamal and to invite all of them to take part in the function. It's to be seen how far they would be succeeding in their attempts. The event has tentatively been fixed to be held on 30th August.

Let's gear up to salute Kamal!
