Avatar (3D)
“Lost in Pandora” Theatre: Urvasi, Bangalore Seating: House full The movie is about a human soldier sent in an “Avatar” (Mentally connected to an exotic being) to an exotic planet named Pandora to extract information about the native people, the Na’vi which would further help the humans to continue their mining operations in the planet. Short version of the story should be that he becomes emotionally attached with the Natives, understanding their culture and how that affects his decisions to help them in dire times. The story actually reminded me of a similar one from movie “The Last Samurai” acting Tom Cruise. Tom plays a British captain in that movie, who is sent across to curb the attack of the samurais on the Chinese emperor’s army. He gets captured by the samurais, and finally learn their ways and understand their cultures, to that extend that, he finally starts fighting against the British armies of the Chinese Emperor. The base of Avatar story seems to be spun in the same mill as “The last Samurai”. Thinking about acting, Sigourney Weaver did a good job in the movie as Dr. Grace, as did Stephen land as the Colonel. The acting of Sam Worthington as Jake needed to be a little more powerful, but can be ignored if you consider his screen time in human face. The graphical characters did their job really well, pushing in the story deep into our minds. Talking about the graphics, I should say that the designers and James did a great job in putting together the wonderful experience of Pandora with a lot of different fluorescent plants, exotic animals, and a great environment of Pandora. I was actually clapping my hands on the scenes when the ash fell from the home tree and when the stones started flying when Jake started running in his avatar form. We find our attention swayed from the characters and more to the beauty it is put in. This may be great in some scenes, but restricts the story in a few cases. 5 out of 5 should be given to the graphics alone. And then moving to the sound, the effects of the movie were far greater than I expected. The missiles hitting on the home tree felt like it was hitting my chest. The background music is actually in sync with the mood and never stood out awkward. Have to hear it again to see and remember the experience. The voice is one thing that I found was not too great in the movie. The clarity of sound was not as good as the other sounds, and once I checked with my fellow mates, found that this seems to be a problem in all theatres. One of the other things that hit me in this movie is the language used by the Na’vi. On searching, I found that this language was explicitly created for this movie, which again had a huge impact on making the movie more realistic. It actually portrays the imaginative power of the director, story writer (Both in this case will be James Cameroon). It’s said that James Cameroon had his project shelved for the last 10 years. I couldn’t picture what good it could do to a movie at that time. After watching the movie, Well, I can say that I realized that the 10 years, every minute of it, has been fruitful. The amount of detail to which the movie has been put through suggests that how brilliantly organized it was. This movie is a must see, and that too in 3d. Maybe a time will come when you can watch 3d movies on your personnel Home theatre, And I hope that time is not far away, just so that I can remember this movie for time immortal. Audience Response: Silent throughout the movie with only a few people clapping at the end (that would be us!). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
