No acting debut for Sourav yet
Ganguly says that he has not acquired the remake rights of the Telugu flick Golconda High School Sarah Salvadore Tollywood is at it again. Post numerous claims that actor Salman Khan is interested in remaking every Telugu blockbuster, T-town has now found another name to piggyback on. A few days ago, Tollyland went into a tizzy with reports that former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly will be making his filmi debut in the Bengali remake of the Telugu flick, Golconda High School. While the news was enough to make any movie or cricket buff sit up and take note, back in the confines of his Kolkata home, Sourav remained oblivious to the buzz. “I have not watched the movie and no one has approached me with the offer to act in the film,” Sourav told a friend, who confirmed the news to BT. Not just Dada, but many in the Bengali movie industry — also known as Tollywood — seem to be amused by the suggestion of Sourav acting and producing a flick. “Dada has no idea about the movie and has not bought the rights to Golconda High School. Though he has done two television shows — Dadagiri and Key Hobe Banglar Kotipoti (the Bengali version of Kaun Banega Crorepati), he has no intention of acting in movies,” confirms the source. Reports had emerged in the media of actor Sumanth saying that Sourav will produce and star in the remake. When BT contacted the actor, he claimed that he wasn’t sure about who would play his role in the Bengali remake. “My producer said that Sourav was keen on doing the film. I have no clue if he is doing the movie or not. I’m a big fan of Ganguly and have great respect for him as a cricketer. I think people have just jumped the gun here,” says Sumanth. Meanwhile, the producer of the original Telugu flick, Ram Mohan Paruvu, says, “A production house from Kolkata approached me to buy the remake rights of Golconda High School. They told me they were keen on approaching Sourav for the film as he fit the role of a cricket coach. Apart from what they told me, I don’t know if Sourav is doing the film or not. I just sold the rights of the movie for a Bengali remake.” With inputs from Zinia Sen ![]() NOT YET: Sourav Ganguly |
