The Man Utd Star, Armenian winger started the season brilliantly, scoring twice and providing six assists in his first seven games.

But he's struggled for form since and has been dropped amid concerns over his fitness levels.

And according to The Sun, Jose Mourinho has major reservations about the 28-year-old.

Mkhitaryan arrived at Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund last summer and after a bright start he was dropped at the beginning of that season.

He was also axed at the weekend as United thumped newly-promoted Newcastle 4-1.

While coaches have been impressed at his efforts to fix the problem, particularly coming in to work on his fitness on his days off, there are genuine fears he can’t adapt to the physical requirements of English football.

A United source said: “There are still problems with Mkhitaryan.

“He is battling to save his career here.

“There are huge reservations over him from Jose and his backroom team. He has shown an alarming sign of fatigue in recent weeks.

“He could even be handed a rest after the international break after going away with Armenia. It's going to be a busy festive period.

“Henrikh did work hard to get into shape after the concerns last year but they seem to be coming back in a way. It's a huge issue.”

Mkhitaryan hasn’t contributed to a goal in any of his last eight games and is yet to complete the full 90 minutes in the league this season.

Manchester United are currently second in the table, eight points behind table-topping rivals Manchester City.

They’re back in European action tomorrow as they travel to Basel.
