Taking a page out of the numerous pages in Indian history,Tanhaji is about the siege of the Fort of Sinhagad by Shivaji's trusted lieutenant Tanhaji. The battle saw him being pitted against Rajput fortkeeper Udaybhan who was a vassal of Aurangzeb. The tale is quite popular in Maharashtra, albeit with a factor which is not put into the movie because it may strain credulity.
Devgn Ji has and always will be one of the most crediblw action stars of Bollywood and does the Alpha male macho Maratha role to perfection. But the director makes the mistake of making him dance twice. The prince of Pataudi overshadows the hero almost every time with his over the top character which is almost a Xerox copy of the one played by Deepika's husband. But it's fun watching him tear into a barbequed crocodile and toy with other soldiers.
The VFX and 3d are brilliant at times whereas horrible at others. Especially the shots which feature animals. Even the 3d does have a niggling problem in a couple of scenes .Despite a crisp runtime, one does get a feeling that it could have been more detailed. Although this is a visual treat, we've seen much richer visuals and grandeur Courtesy the SLB movies.
But the one factor which makes this movie a must theatre watch is the action, which simply put is jaw dropping. The battle scenes and siege scenes make the Bahubali scenes look almost comical. The physical performances of the lead and baddie in these are extraordinary and the way it is shot with kinetic camera movements, which add to the intensity truly deserves laurels.
In short,it's like watching an Amar Chitra Katha on screen
Rating:3/5(Good)
In keeping with the tradition of epic movies in Btown, the word Rajput has been muted![]()
