That would be a disappointment.

Prometheus was a bit of shocker in first watch, but I loved its premise and depth. Instead of being a slasher dasher like Ripley's movies before.

The Aliens and their physiology were a novelty in the first few films because of the novelty factor plus a good story too boot and Weaver's performance and presence. But the last two were largely disappointments (A3 and AR). I don't even want to talk about the tragedies AVPs were.

Prometheus used only portions from it (for marketing) but presented a much bigger canvas to work on. A pity it was let down by a bit of overconfident making and writing. I was very disappointed when Scott said that Elizabeth Shaw won't be there, but then happy when she was restored. I was happy when they said there would not be aliens but then disappointed when Scott said they've been included. Seems like he had to cave into the studio's demands.

Anyways not much of hope from this one - but if it pushes the story of the engineers in some way and give some insight it will be nice.

Don't get me wrong. I liked Prometheus. But felt like a clash between 2 separate movies. The first hour was particularly intriguing. I loved the imagination put into the spacecraft design, the Engineers and particularly the space map thingy. I genuinely felt that it was one of those movies that was gonna spring a surprise on me. But then abruptly it changed into a slasher. And not in a good way. I enjoyed the alien snake creature attack and the pregnancy surgery scene satisfied the icky gore fan in me. But there was no cohesion between a lot of things. And it left too many questions unanswered

I get that they may be saving it for the sequel. But too many questions were left unanswered. And quite honestly I was let down by the origin of the aliens. A giant squid ingesting an engineer and giving birth to the most terrifying creature in movie land was not the payoff I was looking for.

I'm up for a moody space Sci fi horror. But I don't think they'll have the guts to go all the way. At some point in the movie they'll have to unleash the creatures for economic reasons. Thinking on those lines,I'd rather watch a full blooded alien on rampage movie rather than a Sci fi that chickens out midway

Also Elizabeth Shaw is just doing a guest appearance. My guess is she becomes Xenomorph fodder at the very beginning. But Fassbender is always watchable

Yeah Prometheus is a clear example of studio compromise by the way it descended into utter chaos towards the end. But still the characters like Weyland and his daughter all gave some intrigue.

Will be a colossal disappointment if Shaw is reduced to being 'xenomorph fodder' after such a build-up in the first movie.

Fassbender randennam undalle :tease: :tease:

Hope they avoid plot blunders like in Prometheus.

'Finding Dory' comes in a close second with a worldwide total of $1.028 billion as THR ranks the highest-grossing films of the past year.

http://cdn1.thr.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/list_landscape_960x541/2017/01/boxoffice_g-h_2017.jpg
Warner Bros; Universal Pictures (3); Disney; Marvel; Pixar; Twentieth Century Fox Films
Universal's summer comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping cost $20 million and grossed just $9.5 million. Warren Beatty's Rules Don't Apply flamed out with $3.7 million. And Sony's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk topped out at a scant $1.7 million domestically despite director Ang Lee's previous film, Life of Pi, having grossed $600 million worldwide.
Those unusually weak performances for studio wide releases epitomize the alarming widening of the gap between films that work and those that don't, even as North American revenue hit another record high with $11.36 billion between Jan. 1, 2016, and Dec. 31, a 2.1 percent uptick from 2015's historic $11.14 billion. (Attendance was flat at 1.3 billion.) "2016 was about higher highs and lower lows," says Imax Entertainment CEO Greg Foster. "We're finding that if midlevel movies, as well as certain blockbusters, can't show the goods, they can get clobbered in a weekend to the point of being obsolete and gone by Monday. There used to be a threshold a movie could maintain even if it didn't work."
Case in point: Only 26 titles in 2016 crossed $100 million domestically, the fewest in a decade. A slew of massive bombs — including Ben-Hur, Gods of Egypt, Allied and The Finest Hours — lost more than $1 billion. At the same time, China's growth slowed from 48 percent in 2015 to a scary 3.7 percent. There were "periods of booming business, followed by crushing slowdowns, sequelitis and the increasing influence of social media," says analyst Paul Dergarabedian of comScore.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/sites/default/files/custom/Arlene/THR-biz-bo-china.jpg (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/sites/default/files/custom/Arlene/THR-biz-bo-china.jpg)
Disney commanded an unprecedented 26.4 percent of North American market share thanks to Zootopia, Captain America: Civil War, The Jungle Book, Finding Dory, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Moana. Warner Bros. rebounded, and Sony and Paramount continued to fare poorly. Never before has the disparity in market share been so great. "In this first year that all five of our major film brands [Lucasfilm, Marvel, Pixar, Disney live action and Disney Animation Studios] delivered a film, we saw a focus on quality storytelling with global appeal," says Disney distribution chief Dave Hollis. "Our seven big films averaged 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and each had CinemaScores in the A range."
Indeed, with social media dictating word-of-mouth and moviegoers becoming savvier to review aggregators, critics have found renewed relevance. "The why does seem to come down mostly to reviews," says Howard Cohen of Roadside Attractions. "Now movies need rave reviews, and there is less margin for error."

Ryan Gosling will portray Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, in a new biopic helmed by La La Land and Whiplash director Damien Chazelle, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Josh Singer – who earned an Oscar for his Spotlight screenplay – wrote First Man based on James Hansen's biography, First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong. Gosling has reportedly been tied to the project since late last year, but only inked a deal to star in the film this month.

After serving as a Navy pilot in World War II, Armstrong joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the precursor to NASA, as a test pilot and engineer. His first mission as an astronaut was Gemini 8 in 1962, during which he performed the first successful docking of two vehicles in space. On July 21st, 1969 he became the first person to walk on the moon as part of Apollo 11.

While First Man will center around Armstrong, it will reportedly also explore the nearly decade-long endeavor to put a man on the moon, and the cost and sacrifice required by both Armstrong and the country to make Apollo 11 a success.

Gosling recently wrapped production on Blade Runner 2049 with Harrison Ford, though both he and Chazelle are currently garnering heaps of praise for La La Land. The musical chronicles the Hollywood romance between an aspiring jazz pianist (Gosling) and actress (Emma Stone), and has already racked up seven Golden Globe nominations.

"We kept asking ourselves: Is there a way to take those musicals we loved, but kind of make them make them relevant," Chazelle told Rolling Stone. "And not just modernize it, but humanize it ... to get actors who you normally don't associate with this kind of stuff, and make you feel like all this fancy stuff on screen is being done by people."

Not really. The studio campaigned for Arrival more than they did for Silence. Plus this year there are really a lot of contenders in all categories.

Arrival winning 9 nominations and Amy Adams not getting a nomination is a surprise.

Aaron Taylor getting snubbed after winning Golden Globes is also shocking.

“It’s not back-to-back. It’s really all one big production. It’s more the way you would shoot a miniseries. So we’ll be shooting across all [AVATAR scripts] simultaneously. So Monday I might be doing a scene from Movie Four, and Tuesday I’m doing a scene from Movie One. … We’re working across, essentially, eight hours of story. It’s going to be a big challenge to keep it all fixed in our minds, exactly where we are, across that story arc at any given point. It’s going to be probably the most challenging thing I’ve ever done. I’m sure the actors will be challenged by that as well. It’s like, ‘No, no, no, no, this person hasn’t died yet, so you’re still in this phase of your life.’ It’s a saga. It’s like doing all three GODFATHER films at the same time.”

Not even a finalized script. Tintin saw the association of Stephen Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Stephen Moffat, and Andy Gerkis. Animation movies are consistently delivering good projects with Disney and Pixar. Toy Story and Incredibles are coming back with sequels. A tintin sequel needs to match all these expectations. They can't run with any script.

No objection to quality and content of Tintin comics. Source material is not the problem. The problem is script. They already scrapped one script. And I think they pushed Seven Crystal Balls as the source for the 3rd part. Plus Jackson is busy with one of his own production. Andy is busy with Planet of the ape series, Jungle Book, and Star Wars.

Tintin is one hell of a comic. I have no idea how many times I have read it beginning at the age of 10..

Makers should try to make it as a live action, more like Jungle Book.. that would bring more appeal to it..

“A week ago, Friday night in Berlin, the three of us sat, watching the movie,” said Stewart. “And I was so moved by it, much more moved than I had been the first time of seeing it. Maybe it was the company of these two guys, but the movie ended and — this is an admission — but at one point [Hugh] reached out, and he took my hand in those last few minutes, and I saw him go [mimes wiping a tear from his eye] like this, and then I realized I had just done the same thing. Then, the movie ended… and we were going to be taken up on stage, but not until the credits were over. So, we had some time to sit there and, as I sat there I realized there will never be a better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie. So, I told [Hugh] that same evening, ‘I’m done too. It’s all over.'”

MCU - 640,617,272

Total domestic opening of DCEU in 2016 - 299,689,595

They have one more to come. Academy will wait like they did for LoTR. Even if they award it this year it will be for visual effects. This year Dunkirk has a good chance. Nolan films were overlooked way too many times and it is a Movie based on real incident, war movie, period movie. Academy know this is their best chance to compensate. If they can't give him Director award they will push these ones.

If Marvel had rights for all its SH, they would also have done that. Else why bother buying back Spiderman or antagonising Fox for not giving back X-Men.They sure have a lot of superheroes left.

Marvel also tried this by including their most successful superhero Spiderman in CW just for publicity and made him say a SW related dialogue just because Disney bought rights of SW and combinee it with Marvel and Spiderman + Ironman combo's sole intention is to mint more money.

DC pushes Batman because Batman sells. MCU doesn't one of that stature now. If Sony had sold Spiderman rights without that share clause Marvel would also have done that.

BM + SM unadjusted domestic BO - 4.9B+

One of their worst outing that bagged so many Razzies and still collected this much and that too in a market almost saturated that even the best ones are underperforming What about the worst outings one of Marvel's top characters - F4. They decided to shelve the comic as an effect. BM-still dominates top 5 sold comics in Jan 2017.

Then I already agreed the phenomenal effect of RDJ and China. If Marvel was so confident of themselves why Chineese pandering by making Mandarin, one of the best Marvel villains, not a villain in an IM 3 movie. Wasn't that ridiculous?

If Marvel was so confident that making 2nd heroes successful was not a fluke and RDJs charm, why should they try for universal superheroes like SM,F4 and X-Men and poke at Fox? Did they run out of Superheroes?

Whitewashing/Pandering.. you got the idea.. What about hong kong sanctum?

When IM makes money its Marvel movie. When it make alterations its Shane Black's movie. When bad batman films come out its DC movie. When its good it's Nolan movie, or Tim Burton Movie, Lego movie etc.

Marvel and Feige have got a secret sauce wherein they have been able to extract unbelievable stuff from second rung makers like the Russo Brothers (Community and the Cap movies are poles apart), Scott Derickson, Peyton Reed etc. They know how to allow the directors to function while making sure that they are still within the framework of the Marvel success plan whereas DC have got Snyder. The Flash movie with Phil Lord and Chris Miller did kinda get my hopes up before they left the director's chair.

Studio intervention with regards to Marvel movies are positive whereas the ones with regards to DC are atrocious.Nothing in the DC Cannon has come close to the greatness of a Flashpoint Paradox or the Dark Knight Returns

Fox is shit. Plain and simple. We haven't got the X Men movie that we deserve and not even a decent Wolverine standalone. If Snyder is Dc's curse, then Singer is the Fox curse

JL Dark helmed by Del Toro was a fantastic idea. But once again, it went down the drain.

And quite honestly, I find that DC has better Comic arcs than Marvel

A post I mostly agree.. :good:

The studio influence of Marvel was mostly postive, when compared to DC. But if Shane Black wanted to reduce Mandarin to a proxy, could he do that without Marvel's permission?

MCU had no legacy thing to deal with at beginning. That worked out to their advantage. Did Hulk movie affected IM? Because most people except hardcore comic book buffs didn't even know at that time they were in the same universe. Of course, for arguments sake one can say why didn't DC started with a lesser known hero. Would Marvel have started MCU with those heroes if they had Wolverine and SM?

In case of DC, DCEU was not they planned ot anything like that. They just made it as a response to MCU. In case of comics and Animated Universe they had a plan. They are getting better at it with giving complete control to Wan and Reeves and taking Ayer out of SS2.

Fox didn't make a X-Men or F4 movie those franchise deserved. True. Can Marvel wash their hands out of that? In their desperation for money they sold those rights without putting a quality clause.

That was Marvel's fault, right? Marvel made a clause in agreement that they will lose rights if movies are not made every so often. That too a deal in perpetuity. They started making movies just to keep the rights.

China pandering - Dr. Strange. There is no Hong Kong Sanctum in comics. In Earth-9602 it was briefly in Gotham city, but never in CHina.
