Passenger Movie Review
Bangalore PVR
90-95% Occupancy (The first row and a half was unoccupied)
Story:
Refreshing considering Malayalam movies of the past decade. A few areas were unconvincing like the plot that was planned, worse the graphical presentation for such a plan, and a few things about the climax... But the positives far outweigh the negatives and one can only hope that Malayalam Cinema has unearthed a director who is willing to stray out of the beaten track...
Making:
Script oscillated between very good to average... Many scenes have been well conceived, written and directed... The camera and editing were crisp....
Performances:
All artists have given good performances... I think here the director has to take some credit for the casting and the final output of each actor... Someone like Mamtha Mohandas was never given such an opportunity and she seems to have the skill to perform... Sreenivasan was good as Sathyanathan, even though he has essayed similar characters many times in his career he still comes out with a good performance... Dilip for a change gets a real character and proves his worth... Jagathy, Nedumudi, Lakshmi are all fine...
Conclusion
I wouldn’t call this movie great or path breaking but I would call it a brave attempt by a first timer and a successful attempt... I hope this opens the eyes of some of the more established directors that they should stop trying to make SAFE cinema (that in any case is turning out UNSAFE) and look at making cinema that’s thematically different....
Wishes to the debutant director Ranjith Shankar, hoping that he continues to bring us movies with a difference and looks to grow from this very positive start...
