Prakash jha movie 'Rajneeti' is all about political games. The film can be categorised under the genre 'political drama', but it is also discussing the complex relations and rivalry between family. To discuss all these political games,Rajneeti is framed in wide canvas, with biggest starcast.
The film is heavily inspired from or based on epic 'mahabharata' and Godfather. The basic story is revolving around the political rivalry between cousins Veerendra Prathap and Prithvi raj (Manoj Bajpai and Arjun Rampal). To reach the throne of chiefministership, these two are playing thier own games. At a stage Veerendra seeks help of Sooraj (ajay Devgn), an energetic dalit leader. Then Samar (Ranbir Kapoor), younger brother of Prithvi comes to help him in the political battle.
From this point 'the real kurukshetra battle' begins and scene becomes violent in all means..
Rajneeti can be viewed from both angles- as a political drama or family drama. Prakash jha was very much comfortable in mixing these two elements convincingly. Script and dialogues were apt and tight, so that viewers doesnt feel bored even for a second in this two hour 50 minute film. Other technical sections like cinematography, BGM, editing etc too were simply good.
Artist selection was also perfect. Ranbir scored in this multi starrer and his character was well etched.
Nana padekar as Brij, Katrina as Indu, Manoj, Arjun rampal etc delivered dignified performance. Sadly, Ajay Devgan had nothing much to perform, especially in latter half.
Totally, Rajneeti is an appreciable effort which is entertaining, thrilling and racy.
