പ്രകൃതി ,റിയലിസ്റ്റിക് സിനിമകൾ കണ്ടു മടുത്തവർക് തീർച്ചയായും ഇഷ്ട്ടപെടുന്ന ഒരു ഇടി പടം .കുറെ നാളായി നല്ല ഒരു ഇടി പടംകണ്ടിട്ടു ഇത് കൊള്ളാം അടിപൊളി ..പ്രിത്വി ഫാൻ അല്ലെങ്കിലും ഇത് നല്ല അടിപൊളി യായി ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.

Thirteen Lives (Thai and English, Amazon Prime)

I was excited for this project with the names Ron Howard, Colin Farell and Viggo Mortensen and the makers delivered a well-made rescue thriller which equally balanced the contribution of the local Thai force with the international volunteering team. Farell and Mortensen don't hog the limelight, but rather deliver some committed performances while allowing other performers, local and international, to shine. The entire team were so convincing in their portrayals of the divers that one really felt they were living the mission than acting in it.

In a film of this nature you need technical brilliance to make it memorable and the 3 key departments-sound, cinematography and art direction deliver on all cylinders. The score is appropriately minimalistic while not overshadowing the action. Thirteen Lives is a really immersive experience and also shows us the beautiful Thai countryside right from that very first frame. You really feel like you are in the underwater caves with the rescue volunteers. On the downside, the film isn't a thrilling experience per se. It is predictable in terms of outcome and more about how the children were rescued. Maybe the makers intended it that way to be a docu-drama than an edge of the seat type thrilling experience. Some sequences in the 2nd half are particulary scary as the makers have not compromised in terms of showing us what the rescue team had to go through to bring back the 13 individuals. There is also an interesting behind the scenes political and ethical issues that are briefly highlighted.

Overall, a must watch for survival thriller/rescue mission afficianados. If this is the quality provided here then I can only imagine how much better 'The Rescue' would be.
