      Nayattu

One of the better films in recent times, Nayattu is a brutal exploration of our politics packaged as a superb thriller especially for the first 3/4ths of its runtime. Technically sound and gripping for the most part, the movie starts off in an Action Hero Biju fashion before moving into darker realms.

Make no mistake, Nayattu is not an easy watch. It is a bold and risky film which shares some uncomfortable truths where policemen have less freedom than politicans and goons to do their jobs. Joju George is compelling as ASI Maniyan with Kunchako Boban not far behind. What makes the film especially memorable is the spectacular cinematography by Shyju Khalid, whose frames make Munnar and the surroundings seem so beautiful and exotic. Literally you dont want to leave from these beautiful locales. The initial parts of the hunt as the three run away from the station towards the hills of Munnar is so gripping that you dont want to leave your seat. Yet I would have preferred it if the filmmakers had continued the cat and mouse game right till the end...

Most of the supporting cast make their roles memorable, especially Jaffer Idukki as the cold-hearted minister and Yama Gilgamesh who brings forth the coldness and bravado of her character with real effectiveness-such that she outshines Nimisha Sajayan, who is becoming increasingly repetitive in her choice of roles. Though one must mention her character felt shortchanged in the narrative as well. Kunchako Boban is solid as Praveen.

Nayattu loses steam towards the last 30 minutes of its narrative. By then, we know what is going to happen since Prakatt and his scriptwriter Shahi Kabir opt for a realistic approach and hence from a cinematic point of view, the climax feels flat. It's a real shame that what started out so thrillingly with us rooting for the escape of the three characters from the system ends in such a whimper. Especially once the three reach the safehouse at Vattavada, the movie comes to a grinding halt.

That said, Nayattu is still arguably one of the best Malayalam movies of the year.

      Haseen Dillruba

A watchable romantic thriller which doesn’t break any new ground. The twists are also predictable and there are a couple of loopholes too. But it still remains watchable. The male leads are impressive while Tapsee remains one note.

In the initial watch this seemed a refreshing break from all the serious stuff floating around in the OTT space. Especially seeing a CM concerned about the people and his ethical values which seems a rarity in real life politics. However, good intentions arent enough. The movie must be effective too. On a second watch, I came to the conclusion that One is Mammotty's Velipadinte Pusthakam.

The filmmakers have approached the subject with utter laziness. They rely on Mammotty's screen presence to pull the film through and assemble an A-Z cast of well known names rather than work on an interesting story or conflict. It's unfortunate that all the characters are painted in black or white terms. Kadakkal Chandran has no vice and weak point and there is limited acting scope for Mammotty either. Not to mention Age has finally caught up with the superstar. Yet he tries his best amidst such a weak script.

The elaborate cast come and go without making any impression-Balachandra Menon's 20 second cameo is especially noteworthy. Murali Gopi's negative character had a lot of scope and he really makes a super impression in one scene towards the end, but even he has very little to play with. Right to Recall is a good concept on paper but just making a 2 hour plus film about that really stretches us.

The sequences come from outdated 1990's movies especially the intro scene which seems comical considering the advanced age of the titular character. The end sequence is poorly filmed and looks like a video game. Less said about Gopi Sundar's BGM the better.

Overall, this excuse of a film should be a matter of shame for Bobby-Sanjay in particular. They dont really seem to know how to write decent scripts for the Big Ms.

Nonetheless, the feel good exercise is worth watching once for the Right to Recall, Mammotty's screen presence and the feel goodisms on display.

I feel Bobby-Sanjay carries an extra baggage when they have Big Ms in their mind...either they are on a forced to satisfy the stardom Big Ms carry or their script cant reach the level of their tightular characters !!!

They feel free n unleashed when they write for the other stars !!!

Sara's kandu. The underlying message it tries to convey is something relevant but I couldn't see much feel goodism playing out as many pointed out. Kore light comedies okke undu. Overall a decent watch with convincing perfoances from Anna and Sunny Wayne. 3.5/5

      Saras kandu.
film has nice concept but execution falters. Performance of some supporting cast like n Prashanth is pathetic. Lead cast delivers decent performance. Climax is decent.

Sara's - Despite of having a good message, the film fails completely in conveying it to the audience main due to poor direction, tacky screenplay & bad acting. Anna Ben was seriously bad in a role which demanded more than showing her dentals. Sunny Wayne was close to pathetic with his performance and absolute mismatch as a partner to Anna Ben. The only good performance came from Siddhique.

Chaturmukham - Unique Idea, Good Script but Average Execution. Chaturmukham failed to hit the bullseye due to this. Sunny Wayne was once again Bad in this movie while Manju was the dependable as usual.
