Yes, i think so too. Someone who had been watching every move of the police would have thoroughly checked antecedents of the people he was selling his land to. And, I can't see another reason for him being so adamant that things relating to the murder will not be discussed inside the house. He even chooses his words very carefully, as pointed out by Murali Gopi when talking about the voice recordings.

If there is one shot in the movie which I felt was unnecessary, it is the people banging on the window of the room with Rani and the kids inside. It leads to nothing!

Another beautiful touch in writing and direction is Gorgekutty carrying a bag with him everytime he goes to meet the guard. The bag is the same size that he used to store the bones, so that it would not look odd on the day that it mattered! The director has carefully made the bag quite obvious in many shots.

That is the scene that seemingly lead to the news leaking prematurely and people banging on Georgekutty's home's windows! Whether that was necessary at all except to convey public opinion about the case is is another question altogether!
