Prime Video: Kuruthi

Expectations were quite low for this movie mainly due to the quality of last few Prithviraj films with the previous being Cold Case except D:L & A:K. I honestly thought this man will be the guarantee seal of Malayalam Cinema during 2012-2013 phase.

In Kuruthi, While I was watching the first half, I felt Manu Warrier made a superlative debut. The Shots, The Perfect Establishment and Not even a single unnecessary shot. The only flaw in that first half is Prithviraj (which I will come in detail.)

After putting us to the edge of the seat, there was a serious case of “plot development” issue and its more like What if I make Varathan 20 min climax as a 120 min cinema? There is an element of risk becoz unless you have seriously good writing skills, you will run out of steam and this is exactly what happened. The manner how religion reveals the inner demon was superbly conveyed. But it requires more…much more…than that. No need to keep revolving around that. I liked the manner how the narration was gripping like a python on its prey until things started to fall downhill.

With a dampener of a climax and an extremely predictable climax, Kuruthi turned out be a disappointing end after what I expected to be an outstanding thriller. I wish they could have wrapped up in 90 mins and come up with something revolutionary because the subject had all the possibility. Alas it didn't happen and we see the makers playing safe with a sensitive topic (can't blame them completely).

Pros

• Roshan Mathew and Co (except Prithviraj) delivered a compelling performance where Mamukoya had the one liners while Srindha made a good comeback.

• · The Cinematography was simply outstanding especially lighting.

• · The Background Score suited the mood

• · A Terrific First Half.

Cons

• God knows what was Prithviraj thinking. For me this is his worst performance since his comeback through Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil. Who gave the idea to Prithvi (& Siddharth in Navarasa) that by “staring without blinking”, you can create intensity. Surprising that Prithvi gave a highly intense shot through Mohanlal (after the slap from John Vijay) who glares without blinking. While I never felt Mohanlal was holding his eyes from blinking, Prithviraj made me feel throughout. Thus the genuineness of the performance was taken off which made it further worse due to his robotic dialogue delivery. If its psycho act, it turned out to be unintentional comedy.

• · The songs were bad

• · Eventhough Mamukoya got some good oneliners, dress changing shot and My father built the house dialogue looked absolute out of place due its filmy presentation. It might have worked well in big screens but in OTT…it didn’t work well for me.

Overall, Kuruthi is a better work than Prithvi’s Cold Case!!! But still failed to touch the mark.

Brilliant movie. Engaging through out and what a performance from prithviraj/mamukoya. Mamukoya's each and every dialogue was kick-ass. Roshan Matthews did his part well and guy who played Rasool was also good. Executing such a concept without disengaging and disappointing requires quite a lot of talent so manu warrier deserves all credits for his direction
if Malik was about power dividing people. This is about hate dividing people . Must watch

A concealed almost Extremist Hindu is willing to accept a Liberal Muslim (who does not accept her due to her religion) and even willing to convert (just need to get consent to pray secretly) out of love....Later she speaks openly about her religion and her clan with burning eyes and how the opposite clan ridiculed it."" .

Either this is confused writing or confused character development in the name for twist!!!...Or something that spilled off during the whole balancing act!

ഇബ്രു നല്ല മനുഷ്യൻ ആയിട്ട് കൂടി സുമയുടെ മതം കാരണം സ്വീകരിക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ല പോലത്തെ ചിത്രം സിനിമയിൽ നൽകുന്നുണ്ട്. അപ്പോൽ അയാളുടെ മനസ്സിൽ മതത്തിൻ്റെ ചിന്തയില്ലെ or ഒരു futuril possible breakup avoid ചെയ്തതാണോ?
