Mammotty has done a good job doesn't mean its a performance we have never seen. Those who saw Mammotty's Tamil movies especially the heavily popular ones like Makkal Aatchi, Thalapathy etc. knows that he is extremely capable of delivering Tamil Lines. The problem here is that when a reviewer makes a claim (respecting his views) that its Mammotty's best performance till date, its hard to digest becoz there is nothing challenging in that role Mammotty in terms of freshness nor something thats unexpected from him. Its a compliment claiming James & Sundaram are not Mammotty's best performances.


Your comment is similar to what Alphonse Putheran made when Drishyam released. Then a section of fans were claiming that Mohanlal's performance was not the reason behind the success of Drishyam but the direction and script (They would have sang a different tune if it went to the earlier choice). I agree that Drishyam is not Mohanlal's greatest performances. For someone who did Sathyan Anthikad movies, this is expected from him. The only time I felt this performance is exceptional was when the movie was remade into other languages especially Tamil. Still I don't think GK is in the list of Mohanlal's Top 25 performances (For me at least) despite of its popularity crossing borders.
