One of the main differences between MCU & DC Movies are MCU looks more comfortable when it opts for popcorn entertainment in a light breezy manner. If you take their darkest movie yet (Avengers - Infinity War) or arguable the best movie (Black Panther) didn't break that formula. While DC Movies looks much better when they opt for serious subjects in a dark themed fashion. But exceptions are there in case of Aquaman & Shazam! where the narration looks well synced with the formula MCU opts. Also the fact that the formula is more commercially appealing which resulted in Aquaman being the biggest success amongst DC movies. But when you take a look at DC's standalone movies like Wonder Woman, Shazam! & Aquaman (which I didn't like), they makers had a clear idea of what to do unlike Justice League or Batman v/s Superman. Even I found Suicide Squad a mess.

Now Joker might be the first movie where a famous comicbook villain character is put into complete focus without bringing the hero. It brings back the question, "What makes a Villain?". I am surprised to see that Todd Philips (man behind many comedies like Hangover Trilogy, Old School etc.) was chosen as the director. After watching Joker, I realized that it requires some intensity to make a good comedy that appeals the audience. That same intensity can be used to bring a psychological fear into the minds of the people. No! Joker is an not a horror movie. But it lends a sense of fear to a section of audience regarding how realistic can a comicbook villain can be.

The movie discuss about the origin of Joker and what were the situations and circumstances that made Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) to be the most famous comicbook villain ever. The storyline takes some interesting takes on the character and his links with his "rival" and the script gives situations which is not only convincing but also causes loads of sympathy mainly due to the fact that we can relate to the emotions undergone by Arthur. Right from the first frame where Arthur struggles with his life without giving much space to think (for audience) itself indicates life Aruther is going through. One of the highlights of the script was it resembles the Dark Knight Joker in a way. Very unpredictable and you just don't know whats happening until a reveal happens which shakes you. I really wish I could speak more about the movie but it will lead to more spoilers. But one thing is something I cannot leaving without typing ~ THE GRAND CLIMAX!!! It would make Nolan proud and would place Joker along with The Dark Knight Trilogy as the greatest movies made by DC ever. Its enigmatic as well a visual spectacle!!!

I am sure many would have seen this as a contest between Heath Ledger &
Joaquin Phoenix. But after the viewing, eventhough they are playing their own interpretations of the character, I would say both characters are extremely contrasting in terms of behavior, circumstances & moments. I didn't have any emotional attachment to Ledger's Joker because his character is totally enigmatic which is the main reason why it looked great. You just don't know why Joker is doing all this even after watching the movie. The same cannot be told about Phoenix Joker. Phoenix as 90% Arthur and 10% Joker. So let the discussion end over there. Joaquin Phoenix delivered his career best performance and has a great chance to win the Oscar. He seems like gave everything...yeah...everything to be this character. We feel for him when he cries or gets hurt, We applaud for him when he gets back at "them". Overall, a performance which stays in the same league as Heath Ledger's Joker which itself is an amazing feat. Robert De Niro played an almost a cameo as talkshow host Murray which never challenged the great actor. Frances Conroy was superb as Penny Fleck!!

Another Oscar worthy performance in the movie came from cinematographer, Lawrence Sher, who made 81 USA looked absolutely real along with some grand shots like the ones in the subway as well as the climax sequence. Normally in such dark themed movies, its more about close ups and steady cam moments. But Lawrence gave us images which suits a grand cinema.
An important aspect of the movie is the original score which is only used to elevate the scene's emotion (when most scenes are using silence). When I checked the name of the composer and his works, it wasn't a big surprise....The man behind Chernobyl Mini Series!!! Those who saw it can understand the brilliance of Hildur Gudnadottir.

This is a movie which MCU wouldn't dare to make unless they get inspired by the success DC has (if they). I would recco this movie to everyone (try to catch it in big screens) who has a taste for psychological dramas...This is right in the top for me.

I just hope that after this DC stops trying to be Marvel and explores their own unique paths. Biggest takeaway from Joker is that you don't have to create a 'universe' to make successful films. Also very admirable is DC's willingness to paint almost anyone in grey. Thomas Wayne, previously portrayed as the man with a golden heart, the man who can do no bad and hurt no one, is shown here as a bit arrogant short tempered and self centered.
