      Review Good Ayyappan and Koshy

Midway through the 3 hour thrillride that is AK,a character makes a reference to the Wild West. Except that in the azure green badlands of Attapadi, the rules of cowboy Honor don't apply. The games are dirtier and guns are a ****ing joke. The duels are settled with fists of Fury and aggression and primal instincts rule the roost.

The conflict at the centre, between SI Ayyappan and Ex Havildar Koshy is just a facade for the actual politics at play. The centuries-old gap between the haves and have nots. And the still continuing patriarchal power structure that makes the women on both sides just collateral damage. You can have strong female characters who deliver badass lines ,but ultimately they remain victims. And this honesty on part of the makers is refreshing. Coz it's true.

The extended runtime is earned because it shows us how the wounds on both sides fester, the bad blood escalates and culminates in a stunning violent conclusion. Although the score is magnificent, some of the melodramatic on rhe nose musical cues take away from the power of the material. The writing is stellar .The lines even better. It ensures that every single character who graces the screen is blessed with an arc and the actors all make the most of it. Especially the CI dude who manages to convey his desperation at watching things go out of control while at the same time showing grace and warmth towards all.

The sheriff and outlaw at the centre of this wild dance are magnificent. Whether it be in the mind games that they play with one another or the physical violence that they unleash upon all, they give it their all. For far too long was the sheriff being wasted in lame family entertainers It's time to bring the beast back. And as for the outlaw, well it's his career best performance. Right from his intro,he plays his role with a fake machismo. You just know that the dude is soft behind his outward aggression. I hope these sparring partners get more chances to dance together. Coz these two put on one hell of a show and I'd pay top dollar for an encore

      Rating:4.25/5(Excellent)

Koshys wife was absolutely pathetic. The only thing keeping this from a legendary rating
