Georgekutty's 'Breaking bad' ennu churukathil visheshipikam his journey. He may be innocent, but there is no denying the fact that he is losing his soul in the process. Orupad theories varan sadhyatha ulla oru character, athanu Georgekutty.
Unlike D1, D2il Mohanlal enna actorkulla major challenge I feel is that in the first film, Georgekutty had instances where he had to “act” to hide facts(and his inner turmoil) when speaking to others. But in the sequel, right from the word go Georgekutty is “acting”. You could say he is acting in his own film.
Enik impressive ennu thoniya chila abhinayamuhurthangal:

- Lighter moments: - Classic Mohanlal on display. Like the scenes in D1 around the dining table, here too we have the “family moments” with Lalettan’s effortlessness on display. Just watch the way he says “Ithum nammuk pinneed samsarikam!”, when Anu asks him if DQ is his film’s hero. Another one is the way Georgekutty teases Rani when he says “St.Josephs schoolil vittathinte gunama”.
I am always surprised how a man can bring freshness to such clichéd scenes.
Now coming to other end of the spectrum. D2, I believe has some complicated moments that could have been melodramatic but Mohanlal does what he is known for ; Subtlety.
Some of my favorites:
- Prabhakar meets Georgekutty(again) – Perhaps the only scene where Gkutty is not “acting”(in front of others). When Prabhakar begs and tries to touch his feet there is an immediate reaction from Gkutty that’s remorseful –yet- stoic- yet- heartbreaking.
- Car scene with Raju – Easy and fluid acting at its best. When Raju asks Gkutty, “chettante cinema aduthenganum nadakko”, Georgekutty’s reaction has a hint of :is he getting suspicious:, and then he cautiously replies “athilentha samshayam”.
- Rani confronts Georgekutty as to where he hid the body:- Lalettan displays amazing calmness and composure in this scene. His dialogue delivery when he says “ente makkalane sathyam ath avideyalla” is terrific.
- Georgekutty realizes Police station has been dug up:- He is leaving his home in a hurry and somebody comes running and tells him “police stationilano payyane kuzhichitte?”. There is a sudden shock (his whole world crumbles) and Lalettan’s reaction and his body language following that shot is truly masterful.
- Whole family is brought up for questioning – Here you can see the “acting” of Georgekutty ever so slightly. He displays(externally) what the police ‘expects’, yet there is a body language at display(internal) which tells us that he is calculating his next move.
- Georgekutty’s confession to IG – My favorite acting moment. Lalettan is truly world-class here. He carefully delivers a fake confession (as in he is reading his own script), the dialogue delivery is slow as if he is trying to recollect what he has to say. The best part is where he looks Murali Gopy in his eyes and his eyes have this question “is this guy buying whatever I am feeding him”. Exceptional!!
There are scenes and performances that could have been better yet the whole film is written so cleverly that mostly it has terrific moments sprinkled all over.
Special mention to actors Murali Gopy, Ajith Koothatukulam etc.
