I saw K.G.F Chapter 1 completely yesterday. In 2018, when I started to watch this movie, I found it hard to watch with hero worship dialogues coming every scene either from the villains or his supporters or the heroine or hero himself. Maybe months of lockdown and realistic cinema, I believe I found taste for such a film after it was quite an engrossing experience during the second watch.
One brilliant thing about this movie is how unabashedly, Prashant Neel, decided to worship his lead role and the panache with which Yash portrayed this character. A story which is told 100 times, there is a possibility of moments of boredom because of its predictability. But here the makers were quite sure how to keep audience hooked through by giving goosebump mass moments at right intervals. Script wise, I don't think some scenes were required. But since the maker clearly decided to worship his lead role, he decided to do it and considering those scenes were executed....MASSS is the best way to describe it. Despite running close to 3 hrs, there wasn't a moment to yawn because of the maker's approach. Scalewise, KGF 2 is bigger and better. On downside, I felt the antagonist angle was kinda let down in midst of hero worship. I expected more from Adheera and was kinda disappointed and felt his physical presence was more important than the character himself. On other hand, in the prequel, the Garuda let his presence known throughout despite of minimal scenes. Also Raimika Sen could have been fleshed out a bit more better and thus add fuel to its rivalry. I am not getting deep into logic and cliches because I was expecting those and considering the manner those scenes are executed, it was never a cringeworthy experience.
Yash simply was a BEAST in its true sense. I have no qualms in saying that his Rocky Bhai is Bigger, Badder, Massier than Prabhas' Baahubali. Its like slow motion and strong intros are made for such performances. Srinidhi was beautiful and treat to watch eventhough nothing much to do as an actress. Raveena Tandon was going all guns blowing as Rocky's rival. I felt Sanjay Dutt was casted merely as a physical presence more than a character. His showdown with Yash are one of the major highlights. Rest of the cast from KGF Chapter 1 except the crazy dude (I don't recall whether he died in the prequel) returns and the chaaiwala during narration was irritating as expected. Prakashraj did justice to Anant Nag's role. Majority of the actors were overacting which is kinda OK. Special thanks to Shankar Ramakrishnan for his effort to make the Malayalam version a watchable experience. Still I wish I could have seen the Tamil versions which didn't play in big screens here (I saw the original in Tamil).
Rarely I like songs of a dubbed film and in KGF case, I liked all the songs especially the romantic duet. It could have been a hurdle if not well shot and well composed. The BGM was heavy and pulsating. Cinematography gave me a MAD MAX experience and added to the larger than life value to the movie which ensures the Big Screen effect. Yet I didn't like the frames and cuts during action sequences especially the car chase. It was bit nauseating at times and could have created bigger impact if it was cut & shot normally. Maybe they makers wanted to ensure a runtime lesser than 180 minutes. Still some action sequence gives you heavy goosebumps.
Overall, K,G,F - Chapter 2 has all signs of being this year's highest grosser by beating RRR. Its a clear example of how a MASS MOVIE should be executed and as of now, Prashant Neel scored in that section. I am sure his Salaar's expectations will be a sky high and quite a challenge for him to surpass KGF's expectations. Go for It!!!
