Default Doctor Strange in the Madness of Multiverse ~ An Opinion

Venue ~ IMAX, Luxe Cinemas, Chennai
      Showtime ~ 07:40 PM
      Status ~ 100%

Marketed as MCU's first horror entry, DSITMOM started off brightly conveying the madness in multiverse in its true sense. Unfortunately, the movie was unable to live up to the buildup of what could have been one of the most exciting movies in MCU.

The main issue with movie lies with the writing. Just like Spiderman - No Way Home, the writing looked convenient at many places. While Spidery had the back up of nostalgia, Strange had a terrific rivalry to match or go beyond. Unfortunately, other than for a few gimmicks and throwbacks, there wasn't any memorable in this work. Director Sam Raimi tried to provide a horror touch but it was pretty sure that MCU never gave him to power to go Evil Dead. So his game was within the range of Darkman. So when the director is made to play in between, the confusion was pretty evident when the movie goes aimlessly from one universe to another until ends on perhaps the worst ending MCU has ever created. As far as I recall, I don't remember any MCU movie carrying this much melodrama. Its sad to see that MCU is now depending on typical CGI gimmicks and surprise characters to cover its weakness. Then we have list of delightful cameos which unfortunately the makers failed to take advantage of.

Regarding performances, I felt Elizabeth Olsen stole the show as Scarlet Witch. She plays an equally important in a Strange standalone movie. On other hand Xochiti Gomez was delightful as America Chavez. I simply loved Rachel McAdams as Christine and equally hated the manner Chiwetel was wasted. Benedict Wong was fun and finally Benedict Cumberbatch had to depend on his experience to hold the film together. Bruce Campbell makes a (un)necessary appearance since its a Sam Raimi movie.

I didn't feel Danny Elfman was able to provide the apt score considering what Michael Giachinno especially the manner the theme music was used. The technical as expected was topnotch backed by terrific IMAX level CGI.

Overall, with loads of expectations, DSITMOM just didn't hit the mark and ended up as a strictly average experience. Other than No Way Home, MCU is seriously losing its plot during phase 4.

      Thanks and welcome back Intex...

Marvel Ph 4 is a disaster at present. Only No Way Home was watchable.
