      Default Mahaveerayar ~ An Opinion

      Venue
      ~ TCR Ragam

      Showtime ~ 10:00 AM
      Status ~ 80%

Only when I entered the theater premise, I realized this was a fans show with fans wearing Mahaveerayar T Shirts with Nivin Pauly & Asif Ali respectively. Since I rarely missed Abrid Shine's movies from Big Screens, I gave Mahaveerayar a shot. After all, Nivin claims this is the best script he has ever heard. Since he is going through a bad phase at box office, Nivin and his production company might have decided to go back to Shine who have gave him 2 terrific films.

The movie starts with a Rudra Mahaveera Ugrasena (Lal) who is suffering from unstoppable hiccups. To cure this, he tried multiple ways and all of a sudden the movie zooms past to 2030 where we see Apoonnanthan (Nivin Pauly) being accused of theft case. As he was defending his case in the court, all of a sudden Rudra & gang enters into the court from the past. Now if this is confusing, this is what Abrid unabashedly does.

Now Abrid won't give you any logical explanation regarding how the past meets present. Maximum he does is a spiritual viewpoint. So he uses the "fantasy" genre seriously to cover up such logical questions. But the issue for me was the second half was so boring that I really wished he gave a logical explanation regarding this time travel. Now it was quite indigestible to see people in 2030 easily accepting and allowing a case to be crossed from the 17th Century. Now did they find a path to connect the past in 2030 is a question unanswered. Why the King, who is the almighty power of the land, decided to use court to defend his case. Such questions pops up in my mind which actually affected my viewing and the second half was filled with metaphors which was too much in my opinion. I was simply unable to connect with what was happening onscreen during the second half and it started to get really boring. I expected something brilliant in the climax just to sum up all but here also Abrid fail IMO. To put short, this is a movie which only few people can enjoy or even understand. Unfortunately I am not.

The another reason why the second half was extremely disappointing was the terrific first half. It containing typical Abrid Shine characters filled with humour and some terrific moments. I was totally intrigued by the happenings onscreen and as the first half ended up with a terrific punch, I was expecting nothing short of gold. Also I thought the first half which ran less than 60 mins might lead to a lengthy second half which is close to 80 minutes. If you watch the first half and leave screens, it might give you a better experience. Abrid tried to use Rajasthan visuals to give it a big screen experience, but for those who saw Marakkar, its pretty clear that the visuals will not play a bigger role than script.

Nivin Pauly was dedicated to a role which he wouldn't have chosen if not for Abrid Shine. He was more like an glorified junior artist in the second half. Asif Ali looked great onscreen and his dialogue delivery was terrific. Lal's overacting was hard to watch and his dialogue delivery required subtitles. Siddhique, Mallika Sukumaran, Kalabhavan Prajod, Vijay Menon, Major Ravi, Lalu Alex, Padmraj Ratheesh, Sudheer Karamana delivered good performances in their roles. Shanvi Srivastava was delivered a cute performance.

The songs and score were superlative and technical side was fine to an extend.

Overall, after a terrific first half, I expected Abrid Shine & Nivin Pauly would make a terrific comeback with this movie. But after the one hellavu boring second half, I realizes they need to rethink what they did with their first 2 films especially Abrid Shine, who seems to be way into himself.

Thanks Intex, you still says 1st half was terrific despite the fact that the logic was all over the place?

      Thanks Intex.

I wonder if the shorter 1st half which was less than a hour led to more positive reviews compared to a longer 2nd half which folks weren't prepared for.

Because we expect things will be explained in second half. Less than 60 mins runtime and good humourous moments gave an entertaining experience. Second half no connection with the first half other than the hiccups and the characters

The maker decided to make two cases narrated in two halves. We expect a connection other than characters. Above all, it was boring to watch.
