      Default The Gray Man: Thoughts

Went to rewatch Top Gun Maverick with friends, but was late for that show... Adukonde idine kerii... same day HD release ollade kondum day show aayondum njangalum vere 2 gang um matrame theatril ollarunnu...

Plot is as old as the hills... A mercenery working for CIA is suddenly being hunted down by a host of freelance mercenaries headed by a ruthless sociopath under orders from a CIA head... A typical old school 'spy on the run' movie... But no doubt as to movie being a visual spectacle... Russo brothers manage to elevate a mediocre storyline with the stylized action sequences that are shot in a grand way and coherently... However the movie traverses through various exotic locales and action setpieces without leaving much room for actual character drama or tension... And I am never a fan of leaving all the boss villains alive at the end of movie trope in order to set up a potential sequel, so that left a bad taste in mouth as well.

Coming to perfomances, the stand out is easily Chris Evans. Never been a huge fan of this guy(including his eponymous captain america role)... But its evident he was having maximum fun in his half-funny over the top animated villain role... some of his dialogues and mannerisms elicited genuine laughs... Ryan Gosling has nothing much to do other than be the swash buckling protagonist and he shines in whatever little nuance he is given... Ana De Armas is cute as always... Dhanush's character treatment was a surprise... He is properly introduced only in the last 50 minutes... nayakante adi konde chaavunna verum oru token assassin character aavumne vijarichadathe ninnu, Russo brothers actually gave him a 'man of honour' characterization with 2 cool action setpieces where he gives both Gosling and Armas a run for their money... Dhanush's character could get a stand alone spinoff movie.

Overall a time-pass entertainer that is more enjoyable to watch on a bigger screen... Rating-2.75 /5

P.S.- Loved how Chris Evans kept addressing Dhanush as 'my Tamil friend' instead of 'My Indian friend'... There was a popular misconception among foreigners that 'Indian movies= Bollywood'(still boils my blood that hindi drishyam on netflix is more recognizable among foreigners compared to the original)... Guess other languages are finally outgrowing the Bollywood or Hindi shadow among foreigners and thats an encouraging sign...

Thanks Ben. Felt the reviews were underwhelming considering the hype for the film.

The huge casting coup undoubtedly skyrocketed the hype and sadly there wasnt enough material to justify the stars' presence except for maybe Evans... The packaging is slick and stylish though... As a routine timepass spy action movie on a lazy weekend, you wouldnt feet cheated...
