In an official press statement, the makers have revealed the confirmed cast and crew of Ponniyin Selvan. Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, Mani Ratnam commenced the shoot in Thailand on December 10. The film has an ensemble of actors including Chiyaan Vikram, 'Jayam' Ravi, Karthi, Vikram Prabhu, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Rahman, Kishore, Ashwin, and Lal.

In the first schedule, Mani Ratnam is filming scenes featuring Karthi, Ravi, and Aishwarya Lekshmi. The rest of the actors will join the team in the coming days. In the technical department, Jeyamohan has penned the dialogues, Ravi Varman is cranking the camera, Sreekar Prasad takes care of the cuts, and Rahman is composing the music.
